In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least, it is true that man has no control, even over his own will.

Alas, they are certainly welcome to try and struggle to deviate from the laws of causality. Such is the case for a human mortal by the name of Vlad Santana. A young male who would find himself at the crux of a story that would eclipse his mere mortal soul.

Things could not have gotten worse before you even reachedAlbion. While Guts managed to escape, it came at the cost of your identity being revealed to the Holy Iron Chain Knights. Now being captured and interrogated by their leader Farnese thanks to Serpico pulling you into a bad fall, you are stuck in a forced interrogation session where you're either forced to comply, or get a lit torch prodded on your skin.

After daring Farnese to do her worst in her torture as you laid shirtless in front of her, tied up by your wrists and with a heavy iron ball strapped to your untwisted ankle, you wait for her to interrogate you for information on The Falcon Of Darkness, The Black Swordsman and her belief that you are a Phantom, just so you can see how hard she breaks when reality goes against all of her convictions, she knows nothing of this world, and she should not get away with punishing its explorers.

However, before you could feel the flames scorching you alive, she unexpectedly turned over to the sigil behind her and, with deep breaths, started to kneel at the holy object and say her prayers to gather the remnants of her patience:

"O Lord. Please forgive whatever actions I am about to do. Your trials greatly challenge me in my character, but my faith for you will always reign absolute. Overcoming this test is within your plan, and so I will answer to your call. Despite how personal these matters are, I will do them not because they threaten my well being, but the entirety of our land's inhabitants. We will succeed, so please, guide me to your wishes."

"What the hell was that? You think saying sorry to god in advance will suddenly make it ok for you to do whatever you're about to do? If your faith was absolute, you wouldn't be wavering just from-" You started to mock what she stood for, but Farnese placed a hand on your chin and approached your face to her torch, making you cough as you inhaled the constant puff of smoke coming out of it.

"I will make myself clear once and only once. As eager as I am to see you gone, you are not my target. You have met The Black Swordsman, and no doubt you're working along with him. I need to know his motivations, whereabouts and his goals so we can possibly end this age of darkness. Cooperate and respect my authority, and we'll never have to see each other again. Derail this conversation or fail to respond to my questions, and I'll make sure your passing to the other world will be slow and painful."

"Psh, no promises. Doubt a blind sheep like you would listen to what I have to say." Despite seemingly recomposed, you can still see her fingers trembling as she backs away from you. The emotions are far too strong to ignore. Anger, Fear, Vengeance, Happiness, Attraction, it's a swirl of emotions where none of them come out clearly.

"Wether what you are saying is true or not, I will judge you accordingly. Now, tell me what is your relation with The Black Swordsman. Why are you siding with the child murderer? What do you have to gain by letting him escape from us?"

"I've told you before. He's merely a red herring. The real Falcon Of Darkness will reincarnate in St Albion. The real enemy is making you waste your time with someone who poses no threat to you!"

"Blasphemy! Are you implying that the dreams of salvation aren't tellings of our lord, and that we've been worshipping the enemy instead?"
"Yes! Femto is the one who plans to reincarnate and use his magic to become the messiah and dominate you all!" You try to explain to Farnese in layman's terms, but that would imply that she's willing to listen about her entire foundation being evil, and she's been too indoctrinated to even give you the benefit of the doubt.

"Do you really expect me to believe that nonsense, that an organisation from several hundred years has been working for nothing because our real savior is some hoodlum criminal? Magic does not exist. Whatever paganist cult they brought you from, this Femto entity you speak of is not real. Has your upbringing with religious parents brought nothing of their knowledge? Or have they also been corrupted by evil spirits?"

"Oh, you better not put my family into this, or I'll tug you at your pigtails and ram your face on the nearest bonfire!"
"Answer my question!"
This is ridiculous, how can you prove something that you don't have any physical evidence while she does nothing to prove her claims? This dialogue is completely one sided. She will not be pleased by the truth.

>Magic is real, I can prove it!

"The lord certainly works in mysterious ways, doesn't he? Making my 'pagan cult' work as a trial to ammend for my past, while your virtuous synagogue has only turned you into a flame loving degenerate! Tell me Farnese, where in the scriptures does it tell you to enjoy the process of torturing the innocents?"

"You are anything but innocent, monster!" Farnese stabs at you with her fiery torch as you grit your teeth and endure the pain, letting go only when her ire subsides. While her grip is not firm and her thrusts are even sloppier, the fire seems to do most of the damage for her, with an evident blister showing as the result of the burn in your lower chest area.

"Monster, Phantom, Ghost... If magic does not exist, how do you explain my 'etheral form'?" You dare her to come up with a sound explanation as you muster up air between your groans.
"God might not display miracles or let others freely use his powers, but one does not need to see absolute good to know about the powers of evil! Deviating from his words is the root of all this madness, and letting hedonists and non-believers corrupt society will only worsen our condition! You said it yourself that you were seeking to cleanse the swamp of the occultists after your passing, but the fact that you are still here either means that you've failed, or that you have ulterior motives, as you had when you were a human!"

"Oh, so now my words have weight to you? I have read the Holy Scriptures too, you dumb bitch! Page 74, Chapter 4: 'Tolerance is God's Teaching' Have you actually read anything of your book, or do you only remember the parts that are convenient to you?"
"If your words were as sharp today as they were in your trial, your family crest wouldn't be a mere afterthought amidst all the nobles in Midland."
"YOU BASTARD-" You attempt to rip the damn chains shackling you after you hear Farnese have the audacity to insult your dead family members after you've warned her before, but your exhaustion, your added wounds and the sturdiness of the material only makes you helplessly squirm under her grasp.

You definitely caught Farnese giving you a short smile after seeing you flailing about as she caressed her thumb around your swollen burns, before retracting her arms and continuing her inquiry after being noticed.
"What, were you the one lying back then? Why would you call yourself a Phantom when you weren't one?"

>Because you would have died to the flesh creatures if I didn't get you out of there!

Pst when are we going to spill the beans that we were trying to save Merlina's eternal soul from damnation to hell?

I'm sure this won't make anyone upset to hear. Especially not with the monumental pain of failure painting our voice. It sucks that Farnesse is so fucking psychotic that you can't actually reason with her like a normal person. Or even find common ground in most normal people things. Gotta get all deep and existential because she's basically just a walking bible at this point.

>I tried to explain it to you, but you chose to ignore it. So I instead said what you wnated to hear to stop you from touching that cursed swamp. Because if you set foot in that, it would turn you into one of the monster you set out to kill. Fire would do nothing but anger it. You are welcome by the way.
>That curse by the way, was made by one of those evil being you talk about. There were four of them, but Femto is now the fifth. Do you know what they do? They often fake being one of the four angels and cause chaos in the world, like this plague of rats, that I saw one of their members unleash with my own eyes.
>Their fifth member is the Falcon of Darkness. And like the rest of his buddies, he is now faking being the Falcon of Light. Did you think that people would fall for the one responsible for the end times, even if they knew of his coming? It's obvious that they fake being holy to mislead others.
>Because a man with a sword cursed to fight is far from a man that would destroy the world. Guts has no ambition other than just live to see another day.

"I said I was a Phantom so you could just turn around and leave instead of being cursed by the Flesh Monsters! A single drop of blood is enough for anyone to turn into an undead creature, I saved your life, you should be thanking me!"
"Then why are you here? To have your 'thank you' kiss and pass on?
"I AM real, for God's sake! Have you ever seen a ghost react to fire? What do I have to do for you to be convinced?"

"Your death was declared by Your Majesty King Wyndham himself, you were buried there! How could you fake your death in front of the entire kingdom?"
"It was a secret mission, no one but me would be able to get in, and I wanted to clear my name after being accused of witchcraft. Sir Gallahad helped me escape, and though I was victorious, the awakening of monsters during the Fifth Eclipse spread the plague upon our land. This was thanks to one of the angels of the God Hand, Conrad. Femto is their newest member, and he will no doubt sacrifice every last one of us if it means having a physical body."

"So that's your defense? The swamp conveniently did not choose you to be consumed by it's flesh creatures so you could cleanse the land of the plague? How immaculate of you, would you also consider yourself to be some sort of prophet?" Farnese considers striking at you once more, but seems to recall the prophecy of the Falcon and notice some logic in your words.

"When the sun dies five times, the fifth angel will alight, The master of the sinful black sheep, the king of the blind white sheep... The one who shall call upon the world an age of darkness." She seems to believe part of your narrative, even if she does not believe in magic, it was insightful enough of an answer to give her room for thought.

"Back in your caravan, we found several items of pagan origins." Before you could explore that argument to see if she would believe more of what you had to say, she turned over and rummaged through your belongings. "These papers with runes plastered all over them, what are they supposed to be?"

"Wards. I use my magic to protect myself from weaker entities when I am traveling or sleeping-"
"There you go again with your magic! If you were such an experienced magician, why don't you come out of your chains and set yourself free? Not even a freak like you would subject yourself to such a dangerous interrogation."
"So now you admit you're torturing me... Even if I could, there are limits to my magic. I am not omnipotent, and there is only so much I can do without studying and practicing first."

"What can you do here, then? Show it to me that you really have otherworldly abilities! Every single one of those who claimed to do so never were able to prove their powers! It's all an excuse to indulge in drugs and orgies, much like you did in your younger days!"
So she really has done her homework on you... But lucky for you, there are some things you can still do while restricted.

"I... I can read your thoughts. It's how I can dodge people's attacks so well, or how I knew how to dodge your kicks when we danced" You speak on a lower tone, not wanting to reveal your secrets to whoever else might be nearby.

"Wh-What?" Farnese's eyes open wide after hearing your explanation.
"I can also go further in a person's mind and know more of them by searching their memories. Of course, I know how intrusive that can be, so I tend to let them speak and reveal their stories when they want to, unless absolutely necessary."

"Liar! Tell me what I'm thinking right now then!"
"Oh, Farnese... Numbers? This is child's play! You're thinking of the number 7."
"..."
"39."
"...!"
"You thought of 66, but went back to 42. Changing numbers around will not confuse me, our minds are linked now, and there's nothing you can do about it. Give me a real challenge."

Farnese visibly sweats as her eyes advert away from your body, her hands starting to shake again.
"How can he know of my every thought? This is impossible! Does he also know about my past...?"

"Oh yes I do. In fact, I can revist it right now if you'd like." You close your eyes and see the image of a young, terrified girl alone in her room. The mansion is wide and dark, and though it's far into the night, the roar and crackles outside make it impossible for the poor child to sleep.

"Following the chantings and with no one to supervise her, the child was welcomed by the eerie shadows of the night and the stench of burning flesh. The people were once more being condemned by their sins outside her home, they burned brightly as the religious order killed them for what they believed to be evil deeds.

The dancing of the flames and the swaying of shadows scared Farnese to no end, until one of them handed her a torch and told her to throw it at a person.
Soon she threw another torch, and another, and another. The feeling of control over life and death, the darkness around her being swept away as she conquered her fears, the words of praise she got from her peers as she was called a child of great faith, a blessing from the lord himself. It was the recognition she always wanted to have from her neglectful family.

Unbeknowst to her audience, the heat of the flames was also responsible for her sexual awakening, as the fire was also being felt in an area she never had any positive reaction from before... She was too young to understand what that meant, but for now, an easy way to feel well is all she needed to know.
The covenant was not a place for her to explore her sexuality, making her repress her impure thoughts despite only making them harder to control. Thankfully, burning people was still approved, if not encouraged as an obligation as their army's leader. So she found it justified to inflict pain onto others to meet the lord's expectations, while privately inflicting pleasure on herself.

Things were now finally making sense. The first thought she had when meeting you at the royal ball was burning you to cinder. The only way she knows to love is to feel pain and to push pain onto others. Serpico was literally the only one that didn't run away when she tried to abuse him relentlessly, but why was that?

You see a few more memories of her and Serpico going inside a forest when they were young, something that would contextualize her relationship with him and her workers.
"Fetch me some twigs."
As Serpico caught a few bundles of sticks, he noticed several skeletons of small animals, along with the chirping of a caged little bird. After lighting the cage on fire, the poor creature furiously fluttered and cried before welcoming the sounds of silence.

"Why are you doing this, Lady Farnese?"
"The bird didn't become attatched to me. It was a bad pet. This is my crematory, my holy altar, where I send them away." Her smile was illuminated by the flames as she absorbedly responded to her page. It was far from the first time she did this. That mansion was a prison of her own making, and though she liked to burn things at a young age, she also realised that made her all the more unlikeable and unnaproachable towards people her age.

She purposefully made an effort to scare her servants with her evil side, and the ones who couldn't stomach her poor character traits to see the real her were deemed weak by her standards. She would rather be feared than to be found out that she is the one afraid. Afraid of getting attatched to someone, only so they can leave her to find someone more stable. The one who was supposed to love her the most, was the one who set that rule towards her.

"Father! Father!" Farnese once interrupted a meeting to give her parent a hug, not seeing him in a whole year when the only interaction she had was seeing the tortured inquisitors at her plaza.
"What is it, Farnese? Can't you see I'm in the middle of a conversation?"
"Y-Yes, Father... I apologise!" She held a rabbit plush close to her, one that she got from her father in a family trip when the Vandimions were still close and relatively united.
"Do you still carry that filthy old doll around with you?"
"Huh? Y-Yes, Father."
"Throw it away. I can order them to make you as many as you'd like. Go play by yourself now."
"But-" Farnese felt conflicted in losing the emotional value of her gift for several hollow duplicates, but her father knew what was best for her, so she obeyed in order to approve him.

"...Yes, Father..."

"STOP IT!" The real Farnese slaps you out of your trance by whacking you relentlessly with her torch until she lost her breath. She did not want to be reminded of those memories when she thought she grew past them, but the tears in her eyes were very visible. She did not want anyone to know about the inner workings of her mind, yet she was exposed by the one she least wanted to be laid bare by.
>>
>>5199039
Your entire upper body is now covered with her bruises, both of you are drenched in sweat, rapidly breathing and cautiously examining each other's bodies. As Farnese held her head down, her voice finally cracked into something that would resemble the insecure, crying child you saw her as.

"Why? Why did you make me relive those moments?"

>I didn't make you relive those moments Farnese, I just picked a personal one that you would believe me. The fact that memory was the one on hand means that it's always on the back of your mind, even though you try to ignore it.
>We all carry sins of our past, what matters is what we do with them. The whoring and drinking was my attempt to hide from my suffering. I didn't do it because I was a hedonist, but because my dreams were haunted by monsters of the swamps. I avoided the faith because it also happened when I stepped foot in it.
>I was adopted Farnese, a children of the clan my father had set out to destroy. I was immune to the swamp's curse because they were my blood, not because I was a holy prophet. And even though I learned that truth after I started purging it, I carried on.
>And still I failed to save those that mattered in the end. My master, my father, my mentor, the servants of my household. But I will hold on. Because it was the false angels and the falcon of darkness the ones that responsible for it. I know Guts isn't responsable, because I can see that he bears the mark of the cursed, not of the wicked.
>You can rise above your past. You can rise above your mistakes. But only you are the one that can do it. So put the torch down Fernese. And talk to Serpico about it for God's sake, he is a good man.

"As much as I would like to deny it, our upbringings were not so different, Farnese." You soften your voice after seeing your words finally getting through to her.
"Don't you dare compare yourself to me... What could you possibly have gone through to say that we are the same...?"

"We aren't the same, but everyone, at some point lives in their own hell in some point of their lives. It's a scar we all bear that never goes away. Would you like to know mine?"

You don't wait for her to respond, her expectant eyes focusing on your lips is consenting enough for you to continue.
"I had a bad rep of being a drunkard and addicted to sex, always looking for company in whore houses, but I did that for the same reason I couldn't go to my family's church. Through all my life up to my 19th birthday, I saw flesh monsters screaming my name, my vision was covered by undead creatures of the swamp... And all I did to solve these problems was to ignore them, I left my room less and less, until eventually I locked everyone and everything outside my doors."

"This is where we diverge, my mother and my father thought I was cursed, that I was some wicked child, and still they raise me as their son, they had hope that I would never stray away. Even if they had their doubts, they refused to force their lifestyles onto me, and that came with the feeling of being even more aimless in life. But it was only when I have cleansed the swamp, when I knew my origin... That's when I was finally free and with a purpose... If I die in a tent like this, not only will I fail myself, but also my master and the last person I could call my true family."

Farnese's face slowly turns more neutral as your sorrowful story reaches her.

"When we are faced by those memories and overcome them, it's when we're truly free. And when we try and dodge those memories is when we those turn into a burden, being each day more heavy than before, draining us and making us weak, Farnese. This was your mistake, but it's not too late to fix it. Put down that torch, there is nothing more to gain from this."

Farnese's lips start to quiver as you show some brief recollections of your life in the Santana Estate, testing how much you've improved in your spell casting. All this time, the help she desperately craved for was a lot closer than what she thought. Begrudgingly, she places her touch on a handle, and picks up a leather whip from her drawers.

"Well... That's a start." You chuckle while still being thankful that she changed to a safer weapon.
"I cannot change. Not when there are so many people depending on my actions. I need to press forward, or else the past few years will all be for naught. What could I possibly do to reform now? You know who I am now, the degeneracy of my thoughts, this cannot be fixed without a higher power."

"I have tried to be honest with my feelings before, it only lead to more suffering... It's the reason I found this calling... I was foolish enough to believe Serpico would understand how I feel."

"He was my personal servant ever since I was young. The only one who never left my side. No matter how much pain I made him go through, he would always obey me. He was everything I wanted in a man, and before I caught wind of it, we had already grown through our teenage years together. He was the only one that could understand my depraved mind, whenever other nobles tried to have their way with me in gatherings, I ordered him to duel whoever offered my hand in a dance. That idiot never bothered to actually win, always ending it in a draw... But there was one time where he could not defend me from my foe... My father."

"Father wanted me to accept another man in an arranged marriage, and I desperately wanted to escape my conditions... But when I opened up to Serpico and pleaded for him to save me, to run away with me towards our freedom... He rejected me. My only knight failed me in my time of need... So I had to take measures in my own hands, and burn the house down..."

"So that's why you were already in the way to the See when we met at Wyndham... Tell me, when I left your side at the ball, did that make you upset?" You asked Farnese after getting to understand some aspects of her craziness.
"I still wanted to escape, but I knew I could not trust him, so I thought I could make him jealous by dancing with someone else. Even if I wanted nothing to do with you, you gave me hope of escaping, but I knew it would not last. You only cared for me because of my looks, my name, my high status. But..."

"But?"
"Do you know what he said to me after we were back on our journey?"
"Seems like a swell lad aside from the puking part, hopefully you two can warm up to each other on a less dangerous meeting."
"Already afraid of being replaced? Maybe I'll find someone who does not disappoint me."
"Why would I be afraid right now? You could use some company other than mine."[/i]

"I lived my entire life with him, and he still had never seen me as his woman... Why should I care about what you can do for me, this is the path I chose, and I've grown past those pesky feelings of mine. This is not a phase that can be swayed by a man's words, not my father's not Serpico's, and certainly not yours."

"You are correct on one thing. This phase cannot be changed by your Father, Serpico or Me. Neither by the Church or any of your knights."
"But it can be changed by you."
"You do not need to be consumed by that fire, the one in your heart. Rule your passion, and choose a new path. You are still young, I did change and if i can it should be possible even for you."
"The firsts step on that path, if I can suggest one to you, should be to prepare you and your knights for the task ahead. Take away as many innocents as you can from that place, and avoid that the agents of darkness feast on them like scythes in fields ready for harvest"
"Freeing me would be also nice. But that's beyond your new path."

Change never needs to be sudden. The quicker you expect it the harder it becomes. And yet we're always changing whether we see it or not. The mind is truly an enigma. Pity party havin' ass bitch. "Let's say Serpico accepted your feelings, then what? You'd happily live running away from the most powerful family name in all of the continent? Surely you didn't think that far ahead."

"I... I would..." Farnese tries to think of something she would do if she had her way, but she only proves you correct, she has no idea what she actually wants.

"Be it relationships, gods, or what have you, they can only do so much to guide you. Fixing your issues is not anyone's responsibilities, all you've done thus far is change pedestals instead of looking towards fixing your directionless compass. You're still limited by expectations, not noticing you're doing the same to poor old Serpico. He's not obligated to accept your feelings, because he is his own person."

"Wh-What other options do you think I have? It's easy to say this when no eyes are on you."
"Several options, as I had as well. Quit speaking like and old woman, for crying out loud. You're too young to think nothing will change in your life. Hell, you're in the same age I was when I first started having those thoughts. The best advice I can give you right now is to take control of your heart, and not be blinded by the lights of the camp fires. It's a different answer for each of us, but when you do grow enough to get out of that existential pit, your mind will be that powerful fortress you seek from others."

"I've... I've found the place I belong to already, I don't need your help!" She tapped you with her whip, while not intending to be a full strike, you still flinched from her hitting your newly made wounds.
"Argh! Alright... Didn't expect for you to change your mind with a single pep talk. If it makes you feel any better though, I didn't ask you for a dance because I was looking for a cute youngster to shag with, or to step up in status. I just read your mind, and after seeing your feelings, I genuinely wanted to see you turn that frown upside down. If I wanted to embarrass you like you think I did, we wouldn't have been the center of the attention in the dance floor when none of the families there were fond of us. Give others a chance again, and you'll change before you notice it."

"...I don't need to change, and this inquiry is not about me. You have failed in giving me good reason to forgive you for saving The Black Swordsman after his proven crimes, but you have proven to be indeed alive, so I can trial your witchcraft as a man, and not as a phantom."
"Back to square one then... Shame, I thought I was making sense."
"I will place you back in your cage, Serpico will give you rations in the morning."
Farnese unshackles you as your limp body falls to the floor, she attempts to lift your body up, but her noodle limbs fail to even do that much as she holds your back on her knees.

"HMMMPH!"
Nope, not a budge.

>>
>>5199265
Well being a literal mind reader does help with fixing people's problems.

But no way. Shit gets depressing fast.
>>
>>5199265
>>5199267
We'll need to be careful with how we escape though. We don't want to break Farnese's heart and possibly make her rebound and make her even worse.

Though if for some godforsaken reason Vlad ends up meeting Mozgus in chains, I'm confident Vlad won't immediately die. If we play our cards right and use our powers smartly, like showing him Vlad's memories, we could make the inquisitor have a crisis of faith.
>>
>>5199279
>show a zealot your memories
>thinking he wouldn't immediately cave your skull in for trying to force false visions and lies into his mind
Do not do a single fucking thing that makes you seem like a false prophet or tempter to a violently religious person.
>>
>>5199267
The whole world of Berserk is depressing. Our boy Vlad has been through a lot
>>5199279
The thing with Mozgus is that he firmly believes that what he's doing is the right thing. He won't budge just from some mind reading. On top of that he's also got his executors with him, so the chances of getting to discuss with him without interferences are slim. Iirc, Guts had barely managed to defeat them in their pseudo-apostle forms . Would current Vlad be able to defeat current Guts? Knowing this would give us an idea of how Vlad would fare against them.
>>
>>5199284
I mean of course don't immediately show Mozgus magic, we don't want Vlad's skull caved in with a book. Same with being careful with words, piercing the inquisitors' ideals and beliefs at the wrong time could end bloodily.
>>5199288
Personally, I think Mozgus will take great personal interest in Vlad Satana. For Vlad came from a family that was a great contributor to the Holy See once. And Vlad can actually do magic, no matter how basic, the inquisitor will likely want to see his healing magic among other things. So, I'm imaging Mozgus and Vlad will get 1 on 1 torture sessions similar to the current one with Farnese.
>>
>>5199292
That's also a great idea. Perhaps we would be able to convince Mozgus like we did with Bar ham? Would love to see both scenarios play out
>>
>>5199292
Man Mozgus didn't drink the Kool-aid. He excretes that shit from his pores. He ain't listening to a sinner. He doesn't even listen to the innocent.
>>
>>5199297
Yea that would be the best-case scenario Vlad changes Mozgus's mind just like with the apostle. There could also be interesting interactions with the Disciples, a talk with the crow, the Twins noticing Vlad's astral nature (they could see Puck in the manga).

But >>5199305 has a great point. Mozgus didn't drink the Holy See's Kool-Aid. He's practically there Kool-Aid man.

"Your hands are cold." You tell Farnese her fingers feel as icy as her real self.
"I have been holding a torch for this entire inquiry. It's not my fault your body is-"
"Hot?"
"This is why I despise you." Her eyes squint at you as she lets you drop off her lap.
"Whatever... Just lend me your energy, I know the way down to the cage. Unless you also consider healing to be evil and pagan, in which we case you should really burn some sacred relics."

"How do you know you will not suck me dry out of my energy?"
"I trusted you enough not to kill me, the least you can do is offer the same benefit of the doubt to me."
"...Very well." She pressed her hands on your blisters and waited for you to do your thing. She didn't have to press that hard, though...

Taking a few deep breaths, she sees your burn marks diminish greatly to the size of pink pimples as the See leader squeals in shock.
"Ah!" Just before your ankle could get properly healed, she recoiled with unseen speed, still seeming as energised as she was before helping you out.
"What happened? I know it usually is tiring, but it doesn't tend to hurt. Do you feel any different?"

"N-No... I just..." It seems Farnese just got scared of the feeling of having her od pool slurped on, but she seems completely unphased by it. Have you gotten better at this, or is Farnese's Od predisposed to magic?
"Well, if you had any doubts that magic was real, I'm here to prove you wrong."
"Get out of here before I whip you over your blisters!" Farnese starts whipping at your back muscles. While not as bad as the burns, her wacks still sting like hell... At least it's something to take the focus out of your bad ankle.

"There you are, friend." Serpico quickly appears as Farnese disappears inside her tent. "Sorry about leaving you alone with her, had to distract Azan or else I would have two higher-ups giving me lectures for disobeying their others. Come here, I'll place you back at your place."

Offering you his shoulder, Serpico guides you to the squared cage amidst the rocks and hands you some ointment to fix your burns.
"I'd look sunburnt at all times if it wasn't for this, pretty sure it works on actual burns too, go ahead. Don't think this will be the only time you and the commander will be getting some alone time." Serpico takes a look at your twisted ankle and with a precise crack, places it back where your joints were supposed to be.

"So how did it go with her? I was thinking of going in to see if you were ok, but I was hearing a lot of grunts on her end followed by yours, and thought it would be awkward to interrupt whatever was going on between the two of you..."

>About as well as it could possibly go.

"Get your mind out of the gutter, dude. I was literally being tortured."
"Ah, my mistake. Sometimes it's hard to differ without visual context." Serpico laughs to himself. "You certainly don't look that worn out, guess I doubled my dinner servings for nothing today.
"Could have saved some of that food for me, dickwad..."
"Sorry, this is everything I got." Serpico takes a fistful of grains out of his pouch and hands you a teacup's worth of water.
"Eh, better than what your master gave me."
"Good for you and good for your horse! If only he didn't try to bite my hand off every time I fed him..."
"Trust me, you get used to it... Anyway, it went better than expected. Got her to question some things, but you don't undo a lifetime of problems in a conversation. At least she admits I'm alive and saw a few tricks of mine."

"Good to hear, surprised she didn't leave you full of blisters."
"She did! If it wasn't for her lending me her energy, I wouldn't even be able to walk over here. Is she this rough to all of her prisioners?"
"Nah, she usually just takes them to Mozgus or whoever they order her to leave them in, THEN it gets rough. I don't like watching those things myself, don't have a good history with fire..."

"I'm surprised you say that, given how close you are with her. What is it with you and Farnese anyway? She told me you rejected her feelings for you."
"Oh, goodie... Listen, I don't really want to get into this at the moment, so let's just say I have a few reasons to not reciprocate her love, despite being very, very aware of what she thinks of me. Part of me hoped you two got along just so I could let this slide without having to give her a proper explanation." Serpico got uncharacteristically emotional after you've gotten into this subject, what could he be hiding from someone who knows every facet of his being.

"...You into guys?"
"What? No!"
"I'm not judging, The people I align with aren't exactly a favorite among the church either... Not everyday a guy offers me to oil me up-"
"It's a lot more serious than that." Serpico frowns. "I would like to solve this on my own terms, and whether or not I want to disclose this to Farnese is completely up to me. Read my mind to do it behind my back and I'll be the one pushing you into the pit, understood?"
It's legitimately surprising how Serpico can go from cool and aloof to a few wrong word combinations from slitting your throat without hesitating.

I'd say Guts would win 8/10 with moderate to severe difficulty if they were to fight seriously. The spells could work on Guts just as well as an apostle since he's branded, but that's the only advantage Vlad's got.
In DC terms, you'd have to pull a two crit combo on him again to stand a chance, or spend a few more weeks rock climbing your spells.

"Fine, you have a right to your secrets, digging into your personal life is an inquisitor's job." You assure Serpico that you won't pry further if the subject is something that discomforts him.
"Glad we got that sorted out. Maybe I'll tell you one day, a man needs a second opinion on these matters."
"If it's about Farnese, I'm just as clueless as you are. Are you really sure she's taking a liking to me? She's very rough around the edges."
"Absolutely. If she actually wanted you dead, she would have left you to rot on quicksand, would have been a lot easier too..."

"Not wanting you to die is not a cutesy thing your crush does, that's basic human decency."
"You'd be surprised at how many people lack it these days. That goes double for the commander. Mozgus was the one that reinforced those rules on her. If you can believe it, she is just doing a tamer version of his average workday. God is forgiving and tolerant, until you do something I dislike, then I put you in an iron wheel and tear you limb by limb."

"He just does that to everyone he meets?"
"Not everyone, just the ones we send there. Farnese thinks that his trials are just and that she's doing the right thing by letting him judge her suspects, but I've never seen one person come out of his inquisitions and live to tell the tale."
"He can't be seen well by the people."
"Oh, The See loves him. Legitimately, he's done a lot of charity work and funded several organisations for Vritannis. Philanthropy is his middle name, and though most of it comes from what the poor would consider money laundering, he does more with his net worth to help the poor than the average noble. Just make sure not to protest against him, or he'll crush your teeth in with the holy bible itself."

"If Farnese is set on following his footsteps, she must be very popular..."
"I wish, ever seen a 0% approval rating? She's as close as it gets to it if you ask the Iron Knights. Granted, most of the guys here are total scrubs, figure a guy like you can defeat half the army with a butter knife in hand, but they got a lot more than what they signed up for. Some starved, some have dehydrated, some of them got lost, caught by the plague, killed by Farnese investigating something that was clearly out of their capability, you name it. I don't think most of them have even read the full scriptures, they're just here because they're afraid of disobeying her."

"Vandimion must be a hard name to go against, huh?"
"That's the only reason the council hasn't ditched her yet. You think the last holy lady would have taken 2 years to find The Black Swordsman? Put me in a dress and give me 3 months, done and done. They've even told her to focus on helping Mozgus in Albion, but she still wants to prove her worth by taking him in, or else the time she wasted will really be for nothing. It's why she settled on you as her silver medal. She really wanted you to be a ghost."

"Makes sense, How long until we get to Albion again?"
"Eh, I'd say we have it until the weekend. We've been ordered to help the refugees over there, but it might be dangerous given how close to the border we are. Kushan Empire started to invade us after hearing about how the king was bedridden. Haven't heard the news lately, but I'd guess he should be dead by now."

"Let's hope nobody invades the castle and does something they might regret..." Your statement makes Serpico nod as the thinks you're mentioning the Kushan, but you are thinking more about Barnham and the gladiators. How are they doing right now? Did he manage to end the plague? Is he strong enough to occupy the castle and stay there for months on end? And will he really end the royal family's life...?

"Also, there's something about an actual cult being there, lots of people getting into orgies and sacrificing virgins in Albion, so we need to stop those guys either way. Maybe that has something to do with the apocalypse part of your spiel, hear some of the guys are wanting to look for some escorts there if you're interested on that too."

"So you're willing to believe me?"
"Believing? Yes. Supporting? Eh..." Serpico shrugs. "Sorry, Vlad. If you say right and Farnese says left, I'm going left, that's just how it goes here. Lending you an ear and some energy is the most I can do on my end, don't take it personally."
Taking his help for granted, you finish your food and take a nap. If it wasn't for Serpico healing you every now and then, you would never get any better inside your makeshift cell, this thing was made for you to starve and die inside...

The Tower of Conviction was within sight when the desolate wasteland showed it's ugly face. Several poor people managed to get fed by the knights in their charity work, but they were celarly understaffed for the thousands of peasants they had to feed on the hour.

"Hey, Hey! You need to stand in line!" Azan tried to explain to the ones who rushed to eat the cauldron of runny soup they had saved for them, meant to last a day, gone before noon.
"Help! A Kushan group is going after my husband!"
"On it!" Serpico was dispatched with a few other knights.

Seeing all of this behind bars while Jerome toyed around with a key ring was at the very least, upsetting. You could be doing so much for these people if you weren't in here...

>Snatch the keys from Jerome.
>Bend the bars until you can make an opening.

WTF? No, let's not "be seeing" healing people anon, that's just gonna freak everyone out.

If you really wanna help, the moment we give someone his food, if our hands touch the other persons finger let's transfer a little grain of our Od to heal them. And even then, I say we should sense the peasants Od to see if they're not corrupted or some shit like that, just to be sure there isn't a trap or we actually change evil Od

Also QM, what about of Merlina's cape? Please tell me it is safe somewhere in Farnese's tent or if we're actually using it

Tucked in inside your armor. Serpico barely managed to take it out the quicksand without ripping it off, but he didn't see any of the runes there while washing it. He just thinks it's a fashion piece so he left it at Farnese's tent. The fabric feels nice, at least. The Holy Lady could probably wear it if it didn't itch so much

"Hey you!"
"Huh? What do you want?"
"You do not have enough people to help the poor here. Let me do some charity work for you."
"Yeah? And what's one more guy going to do there that the other bunch aren't already doing?"

"No doubt something a lot more useful than sitting around here hearing the ringing of the keys. Do you even want to be here?"
"No, but they gave me orders to let you stay in there and shut you up while everyone does their job, so shush." Jerome hits the lock of your cage, wanting to end the conversation so he can get through the day faster.

"I am not here by choice either! Don't you feel upset seeing all these people being unable to simply live and be with their families?"
"A little bit, yeah. But what am I supposed to do, cry for them?"
"You could set me free, for starters."
"I wasn't paying attention to the debriefing today, but I've heard the word 'Phantom' enough times to last a lifetime, so no can do. I know you can probably release a bunch of arcane shit at people if they upset you, so let's not be hasty about our decisions, ok? I can only take so many salary cuts." Jerome says without even turning his head back into the clouds.

Wow, this guy really has the drive of a scarecrow. There's gotta be a way for even him to get motivated.
"Jerome! What are you doing with your pants down?" You mimic Azan's voice inside his head, distracting Jerome as he looked downwards and moved his wrists down. And that's when you bit the key ring and snatched it out of his fingers.

"Wha-HEY! Give that back!" Jerome puts his hands inside the bars, but can't quite reach you in there.
"This would be harder to do if you cared about your job."
"Look, I really don't care about you, or whatever crime you're here for, just don't get me into trouble!" He tries to reason.
"If I willingly got into the cage before, you have nothing to be worried about. If anyone asks, just say I used my ghost powers to phase out of the cell."
"Grr..." Jerome covers your cage with a rag, letting you out while your hands were still restricted.
"Damn it, I just wanted to check the girls out. Why did you have to get captured by Farnese anyway?" Jerome straps you to his horse as you stay behind him, explaining to his colleagues that you needed to take a piss.

"You see a pile of refugees, and the first thing that goes through your mind is the hot women around?"

"After hearing the nagging of Farnese in your ear, anyone with a different voice sounds like an angel to my ears... Alright, where do you want to go, hero? You're already feeling like a second boss..."

>Let's see how Farnese is treating the poor.
>Let's help them get more rations.
>Serpico might need some help with the Kushan group.
>You wanted to see the women, right? Let's go for it.
>>
>>5199562
Also, should the rune sequences be something Vlad sort of knows but can't do yet? Should the wards be basically does the pushing against evil targets and triggered by presence of evil? Schierke also uses wards but it has some sort of alchemical symbol instead of futharks. Should I try to find and post Enchiridion Alchimia and post it here? I can't find it yet.
>>
>>5199742
>Let's help them get more rations
This is our chance for Vlad to become friends with Jerome, thus making the Holy Iron Chain Knights like Vlad more. Let's not waste this chance!

Also it's the safest choice, remember Vlad had been stuck in a cage for days at this point. And Farnese has mixed feelings for him leaning towards positive. Let's be safe and keep it that way.
>>
>>5199742
>You wanted to see the women, right? Let's go for it.
>>
>>5199745
>Schierke also uses wards but it has some sort of alchemical symbol instead of futharks.
I'm betting that Schierke and Vlad are using different "schools" of magic you could say. Schierke uses elemental magic air, earth, fire, water. While Vlad's magic is of the light and darkness, or something like that.
>>
>>5199753
+1

If we really, REALLY wanna be friend with Jerome the easy option is going for some woman... Until of course, Serpico, Azan, Farnese or any other Knight comes to see we aren't un our cage and then getting Jerome in three times mor troubles than he could have got.

Let's just help with the rations and try to be friendly with Jerome, maybe crack a joke or two and see if he starts having some good time with us chatting while helping people
>>
>>5199759
I was going to ask how Magic works and if for us to use fire Magic we need to talk to some fire Spirit. But from my point of view, it looks like Vlad uses Magic focused in purely Od instead transforming the pure energy of the Od in a fireball
>>
>>5199745
Good thing about saying that Merlina taught Tudor magic to Vlad is that I can somewhat freestyle it under the explanation that it's a different language and a different style of teaching. You can post it if you want but don't feel obligated if it's too much work. Plus I've only skimmed through the past two books so far.

Vlad has practiced plenty of rune sequences to the point where he knows several of them by memory, but Merlina prioritised the easier ones that didn't risk his well being and were more attuned to his soul such as protection traps, light wards that work as 'keep out' signs and healing.

There's probably a Megidolaon spell or some shit like that which Merlina sneaked in case he needed it but the lack of pen and paper in a flesh swamp really put a damper on things
>>
>>5199763
Yea Vlad has the innate and powerful ability to direct and control the flow of Od, and he can do very powerful things with it. Like healing someone with just his hands, telepathy, etc. Though he probably has no skill in transmuting Od into fire or other energy's, he doesn't need it as he's a incredibly skilled fighter.

I thought of going to the Trove but then I realized yesterday it's down for 9 months, the archive is incomplete and I have no idea how to properly browse the archived version, besides, the Enchiridion Alchimia is literally just a guide for alchemists like distilling alkahests and reagents so I don't think Vlad's white mage build will need that. Also I pretty much freeloaded the first two, Runes of Power on the /tg/ archives and Sigillum by typing in "Enchiridion Sigillum pdf free" and a fireden link for download showed up. There's also a ufile upload of Alchimia but it's past 30 days and you need a subscription for it.

In this case it would probably be just being careful to fill the rune array with enough Od not to break it, although the original "human blood powering" is right out since that's Dark Magic. iirc in the original setting (Runed Age) it's sort of implied that the runes themselves come from entities whispering into people's heads (see: Runes of Power pdf).
>>
>>5199764
Also, have you considered having Vlad try using incantations? Not every place will be available for the Barnham Maneuver, and whatever spells Vlad could use now could be less obvious. Maybe Vlad can scribble arrays into papers and carve into small rocks, leave it overnight to soak up the Od that's flowing strongly now (his Od senses were going crazy when skull knight landed him in the stables at the beginning of the last thread), and use them like naruto paper tags.
>>
>>5199742
>You wanted to see the women, right? Let's go for it.
Maybe we can stumble into the cult and in the chaos Vlad will have a way to fake his death again.
Also its game over if Mozgus gets a hold of us so Vlad must escape before then and there is little time left to do that. Mozgus won't give a fuck about good deeds, proof, or well spoken arguments. Vlad is a suspect and being handed to him so he must be put on the breaking wheel and killed in his mind. Remember what he did to that women that begged for her baby to be fed.

I imagine we are in rags. Could we ... take our stuff let s say. Or i guess we can't uh, there is probably knights guarding it. I really don't think is safe for us to stay here, the inquisitor will not play nice. Barnham is just an exception, not everyone give respect or consider talking for that matter especially if they are evil.

>>5199783
I think we could make some with pieces of cloth and paint. I was considering to also use them for counter the ritual maybe ? Though the place is big.
Maybe we can create some rune kill zones for demons, it s unlikely we can cover the entire refugee camp. Though I would say our priority should be to save people and get out. Monster slaying is good, but odds are not in our favour here with the 2 eclipse.
If Serpico, Azan and Farnese can understand that people should not stay here and that Mozgus is insane maybe there is a chance more can escape to safety. But I am not counting on that until the last second.
>>
>>5199948
Maybe it's high time we try casting our telepathy out as much as possible and hope that any spirit picks up the call.
>>
>>5199948
Or we could, in the time it takes to travel there, gathher up all available writing materials, and following Enchiridion Sigillum, just add in fucktons of conditionals and "murgrot/massive" (read: 10,000% increase in size of effect rune) to expand the size of the array enough to cover a significant area so we can at least be spirit-free. Also, I've been trying to decode the runes in the pdf, they are obviously some sort of bind runes but the combination if done from english just don't match up with what is shown. I fear that the maker has taken artistic liberties with a format I can't replicate with the runes. I've been researching and it the rune name seems to take from Old Dutch as well as some sort of Proto-Germanic

"Let's help them get more rations."
"More? But there's not that much we can do without Mozgus. That is, unless we get more from our own rations..."
"So there is something we can do, you're all getting fed once you get to the tower anyway, what's half a day without eating going to do to you?"
"Hey, if you have no problem taking some crates from our food, you better spend some time with your stomach rumbling as well."
"I'm gonna die anyway, might as well give it to people who might outlive me."

Jerome places two crates of a varied assortment of foods and places them on your back, the way he strapped them at you while you hopped down to walk felt like you were more of a packhorse than the actual packhorse.
Still, it was worth the effort, Jerome rang a bell to call some people's attention, and while several of the beggars were already beating each other and getting beaten up by the knights for disobeying the bread line order, along with Farnese arresting several of them from eyewitness reports of stealing, being head members of the cult, prostitution and murder of priests.

You could probably go there to ask her if they're actual criminals or not, but since you're already her prisioner, interjecting on her work would only result in public spanking.

Regardless, it was really hard to watch them eating their food. Some of them clearly hadn't bathed in weeks, their teeth were decaying, some had their limbs amputated from the sickness, and a few of the children were shedding tears of joy just from having a single apricot to eat that day instead of absolutely nothing.

"Lord, please... Spare this poor mother some alms... The food is running out here, and I need to feed my son..." A lady is talking to herself while holding a child that is already decomposing in her hands. Flies are coming in and out of her son's mouth, yet she still carries him thightly around her breast.

"This is depressing... At least Ilos had less people to work with... Jerome, do you have any pocket change?"
"No..." Jerome lies, but you can hear the rustling in his pockets when he walks back.
"Come on, they need it more than you."
"Doesn't mean I don't need it. Was looking forward to giving them to the girls whoring at the tents..."
"..." You blankly stare at him for being so stingy.
"What, I'm giving money to the poor, right? They need to work for it too."

"How much do you have?"
"Right here? Uh... about 2 silver coins in bronze."
"That's 60 bronze coins, a few of them could certainly be used to help them out."
"Ugh, first you waste my time, now my money too?"
"Serpico probably saved my stash, You can ask him to pay you back later, alright?"
"Sure, but I hope you're not talking out of your ass..."

Money: 7 gold coins and 24 silver coins at hand. (140 Gold Coins and 28 silver coins on their way to Ilos.)

"Thank you, Lord! Your kindness is immeasurable to a sinner like me!" The single mother thanks the higher entity for the alms instead of the guy who handed it out to her. And so did the the following few people who saw Jerome open his pockets.

"Please, mister! Have some for me!"
"And me!"
"Me too!"

"That's all I got for today, brothers. Shoo!"
"Liar, I can see the coins on your closed fist!"
"I can't empty my savings on all of you." Jerome brandishes his sword so they would back off him. "Gee, never seen a group of hoodlums act so entitled for money. Give an inch and they'll take a mile."

Not bothering to argue with Jerome, you help him hand out more food for the remaining few hours, and by late afternoon, you managed to give enough rations to the poor to feel like some of them will survive until the Holy Knight's next expedition.
"Hey, I heard you two were handing out money?" A young woman with brown hair accompanied by a shorter blonde one steadily approached you and Jerome.
"Sorry ladies, the handouts are done for today, come back at a later date."
"Oh no, that's alright. We were thinking of getting our sum from you by... working." The girl promptly lifts the lower part of her dress to show her legs up to her thighs, the blonde one was supposed to accompany her, but she was too busy zoning out of the conversation.
"Nina!" The head hoe elbows the sheepish girl on the shoulder so she follows suit, resting her head on your bare chest and fondling your muscles, refusing to show her vag to the audience.

"Whoa, mama... Seems like hard work does eventually pay off... The brunette in particular really caught my eye... Hey Vlad, you mind staying with the blonde chick? This one's on the house."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, who would have thought that instead of going out to look for the girls, they would flock to us just by doing our part? Between this and the cage, I'm sure even you want a change of scenery."

That takes you back to your teenage years, always face deep in some boobs to forget the horrors of your visions... Will it really feel the same now that you have everything mostly worked out mentally? A guy needs to have fun every now and then, especially when he's about to go on a suicide mission against The God Hand.
>>

"How much?"
"5 bronze coins. No kissing and not doing it from behind. If you want to choose another girl, we have a few others on our tent." Nina replies, still deadpan in her delivery.

>Sure, I'll stick with the blonde chick.
>No way, you can keep the blonde chick.

"I want to help out a few other people before the sun sets, they're all yours, Jerome."
"No complaints there. Don't mind if I take my time, can you make up an excuse for me?"
" 'Jerome? Oh, he was worried about Serpico and the Kushan group, so he went out to help him.' " You start training on what to say to the Holy Lady.

"Already sounding like an Iron Chain Official." He gives you a thumbs up.
"Can't believe you lost another client, Nina! I know you have a thing going with Joachim, but you gotta focus on your work now."
"That's not it... He probably got suspicious that I didn't show my body anyway..." The girls whisper between each other after Nina was seemingly rejected by you.
"Relax, sweetheart. You'll get more clients in due time." You play with the curly flocks of Nina's hair as you cheer her up. "I'm not exactly a free man, and there are a few other things I want to see and do before having any fun. Keep your chin up, a girl like you would be very popular where I come from."

"Th-Thanks?" The confused Nina blushes in return, not being sure how to take the compliment.
"Let's get going. Pepe's not used to taking care of Elaine." The brown haired woman takes both of their hands and waltz to her home.

...You could have banged a girl named Pepe?

Ok, let's see how the others are doing...
Serpico comes back with a crossbow in hand, his hair making him look like a ginger with how much blood is on it. There goes the excuse you made up for Jerome... He seems to be pretty exhausted, wanting to take a breather before having to hear more of Farnese's nagging.

The holy lady was constricting a few of the deemed guilty to old tree stumps, interrogating the cult leaders while the others got rocks thrown at them. Plenty of them are already dead by the time she's done talking with the first one.
Azan is checking the fabrics at the cavalry, seeing if he has any spare blankets to hand out to the cold and underclothed. He seems to be the most invested in actually helping out the beggars, good for him.

"How's it going? Need someone to sew you a few holes?" You approach Azan as you drag your feet around.
"You're out of your cage?" Azan raises his eyebrow
"Innocent people don't stay behind bars. I supposed you don't have any objections to me helping the people?"
"Not at all. Given how you're also half naked, I'm surprised how you haven't caught a cold yet."
"Nature loves me, a little cold wouldn't get me down even if I catch something."
"Just make sure not to cut your bare foot here, you wouldn't believe how many people die from stepping on someone else's urine." He hands you a few colored rags to share with others.

The galloping of a horse is heard in the distance, and with him, comes several spasms of your body. Ones very similar to the ones you had when didn't have any control of your visions, but this time, they feel a lot more real.

You're not even feeling for Od. Who could be doing this?

Someone is watching you. An amalgamation of souls both alive and dead, resenting the church for how many they have killed. Even though they prayed through their anguish, no miracle graced their presence. They curse God and life itself, and intend on sacrificing all to quench their vengeance.

A branded individual is here, and it sure ain't Guts. Given how many souls are already gathered, even if you evacuated all the living from here, they still wouldn't hold a candle to the generational genocide that Midland is known of. Every block of dirt hides the skeleton of some forgotten human. The tower feels heavy, and with a powerful entity residing here, a cult, and someone who went through a sacrifice... Placing a hateful inquisitor such as Mozgus here would only lead to more destruction.

"You feeling ok, son? Seems like your condition is acting up again." Azan takes you out of your trance, seeing you paused for several minutes without blinking.
"Something like that... Do you mind if I lie down for a bit?"
"Go ahead, I'm almost done with the work anyway. You've helped me plenty!"

What was supposed to be a quick rest made you crash as soon as you hit the fluffly blanket under you. Your body felt restricted by several evil spirits circling around your body.

LIGHT! MORE LIGHT!
THE INQUISITORS! PUT OUT THAT FIRE!
SAVE US, GODDESS OF FIRE! AAAAAAAH!
They recognize your soul as a pure one, seeking to invade your body to corrupt you from the inside...

"Blessings to you, Brother Azan. Though our struggle is immense, God shall remember our names in the days of reckonings and retributions."
"Father Mozgus! I didn't think you would be here so soon!" You have barely enough time to hide yourself under the blankets while Mozgus' Od dissipates the souls by his mere presence.
"'Tis is marvelous to see Farnese acting her role as a holy woman, perhaps you would know of her current whereabouts?"

"Think she's rounding all the prisioners up in their cells."
"Good, I would like to examine the heretics and punish them myself."

There is a very little margin of time for you to get back in your cage, or for Farnese to realise Jerome let you out. You're not sure if Azan didn't mention you because he also wants to cover for you, or because he considers you to still be within his grasp, but Mozgus appears to lead an army of several masked disciples, each carrying pitchforks, breaking wheels ans scissors.

If they are really Farnese's mentors, they will show no mercy to the ones who are here. He might not be aware of it, but he is directly contributing to the rebith of Femto. Admission of suspicion means guilt, and questioning of his actions will result in meeting 'divine light'.

Naw man I ain't fucking with Mozgus, the man is buffer than a bodybuilder and his od is so strong it can wash away several evil spirits without any effort.
>>
On a separate note, should we maybe use our telepathy on Mozgus so that he thinks he's being contacted to an angel or his god or something? We could maybe use it to tell him to go find Farnese and that would get him away from us atleast.

"Vlad! Where did you go? I could have sworn Jerome was taking care of him..." Serpico is heard rummaging through the tents to see if you were still around.
"V... Phantom! Show yourself!" Farnese thinks about calling you by your name, but quickly corrects herself after seeing Mozgus' look of disapproval by calling a demon lord by his true name.
"I'll let them find you on your own, you look too tired to run anyway." Azan patiently waits for the holy knights to come to his place so he can promptly point in the direction of the blankets.

"There you are! Who said you could come out of your cage, monster? I shall whip you and whoever is responsible for this!" Farnese is back on her zealous mode, aiming her whip at your face until her hand was caught by the grand priest himself, Mozgus.

"Hold still, Daughter of God. Before punishing the heretics, it is common courtesy to remind them of their cardinal sins. Take his belongings to me. I will personally take care of his trial. Please focus on the task at hand." Mozgus' hand bleeds after blocking her blow.

"But I... He..." Farnese has mixed feelings about letting you go now that you opened her mind to different possibilities, but still stayed silent in order to comply with her master.
"You shall see him again in the tower, where you will guide all the others to in the following days." The square faced inquisitor finishes his explanation and turns over to meet his most curious subject yet.

"I have heard about your family before, Vlad Of The Santana Estate. Your father was a great contributor to our crusades, as was his father and his past ancestors. Without his generous offerings, plenty would not be here today persecuting the heretics." Mozgus reminds you that if you weren't adopted and treated like a cursed child, this is probably were you would have ended up on, right next to Farnese as a Holy Iron Chain Knight. Either licking her boots and hoping to get her approval like Serpico, or turning into a jaded non believer that did whatever he liked to in his offtime like Jerome.

"So why? Why hast thou resorted to heresy, lost brother of mine? Faking your death to the King to fix the swamp was something only a saint should be capable of, yet despite embarking on such a dangerous mission and even killing The Silver Eyed, you have learnt her magic and used it to help the agent of darkness. For every sin you have committed, an equal virtue was created."

"Your drive is admirable, but a sin is still a sin. What do you have to say in your defense?"

>The plague is nearly over thanks to me.
>I am not a sinner, my powers are pure and only used for good.

The current plague and heretics are due to the corruptive nature of Slan (the heretics) and Konrad (the plague). I know this due to revelation revealed to me by god during my trial in the Swamp. "I may have been a sinner in the past, but i am not now. I have not forgotten the lessons of my family and Sir Gallahad, both of them pious and faithful."
"Test me against this great danger. I will not escape, give me some rest and then send with me the knights and anyone else that will watch me. From my actions judge me"
"But i also have a request, regardless of being a sinner or not. This is a mundane concern. I think you have already notice, but the refugee camp is getting too large and the conditions are not the best. Would it be possible to contact nearby priests and see if their communities can take some of them ? At least the ones that you see are innocents and pious."

"I have not learned magic Mozgus, I was born with it. It was a curse that lead me to the debauchery, to hide away from the visions of demons." You kneel in front of Mozgus, offering no resistance as he listens to your story.
"I tried to run away from it, but it landed me in the prison. I would not lie to the church, or bersmirch my parents. So instead I decided to fight the fire with the fire I was given, and it was it that allowed me to purge the swamp. There is a great danger that has yet to come, allow me to atone by slaying it, let me break the cycle of virtue and sin."

For something you managed to come up with on the spot, it didn't sound that bad for an explanation to the priest. However, the shaking of his fist and the way the veins are bulging out of his face... This was never the type of enemy you could befriend or talk to as your equal.
As Serpico said, what Farnese gave you was merely an appetizer for the real torture.

"Atone...ATONE!? Who do you think you are, to repent and choose your punishments without consulting the church? Do you really believe to be so enlightened that God would guide you to your path, instead of being further pushed into the depths of hell?"
"What? No. I just wanted to do whatever good I could, so God can forgive my soul-" You lifted your head to argue with Mozgus, but you were struck by his bible, the blow being powerful enough to send your face into the rocks.
"YOU ARE NOT A SCHOLAR OF GOD! DO NOT PRETEND TO BE INFORMED OF HIS WAYS, INFLICTING PAIN ON YOURSELF IS ONLY MINDLESS SELF-FLAGGELATION IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE LORD, DO NOT ACT AS IF YOU KNOW WHAT HE THINKS, WHEN THE GREATEST INQUISITOR OF MIDLAND HAS NO GRASP OF HIS TRUE GOALS." Mozgus strikes you relentlessly with the holy scriptures. You thought a regular man would have no power over you anymore, but his hits rival even the ones you took from Barnham back at Ilos.

"Your life is doomed to be cast in sin, because you have not truly been punished by your past actions. To truly repent, you shall have your body and soul properly cleansed by an official. Farnese, what punishment shall be given to a believer who has refused to confess, and refused to return to his covenant for years?"

Farnese stammers after seeing you spitting blood on your knees, along with some cracked wisdom teeth, but responds promptly to her master after he stared dead in her eyes.
"777 whippings daily, for 7 days... I have seen his cursed powers at hand, and the way he portrayed himself as a phantom could very well count as falsefully testifying... His fingernails shall be removed in the iron chair, as for the curse, the funnel should work if we cure him with holy water."
"Correct, as expected from the Holy Leader." Mozgus clasps his hands with a smile, should you be happy that your death was not confirmed?
"If god is truly with you, Vlad Of The Santanas, you shall live on and be enlightened by your test."
>>

Sprinting into a run, you trip after noticing that there was still an iron ball chained around your ankle.
Big deal! Your new armor set weighs twice that amount all over your body, might as well use this as a weapon.
Placing your shackled foot high up in the air, you use the weight around to knock Mozgus a couple feet back, when this was supposed to crush his ribs... How tough is he?

Still, it opened enough space for you to pick up the iron ball and run away to wherever Gunpowder was, if you could manage to find his Od amidst this chase.
"So much for repenting... It seems the ancestors of his family head are shaking their head at this scene. AFTER HIM!" Mozgus wipes the blood off his chin and points to your fleeting figure.
The Holy Iron Knight Chains are all a different breed of weaklings. Here you are, half naked and disarmed, still managing to dance around their blades and arrows as they all hit each other. Killing them would have been too easy, so you decide to do the self imposing challange of only knocking them out with the force of your palms. They all fall down as you effortlessly reach Gunpowder's settlement. He's there waiting for your signal, your caravan is ready, you just need to-

Serpico appears inside, brandishing a replacement sword as he calmly approached you in guard.
"I believe I've told this before, but I have no qualms with repeating myself. If my commander orders me to apprehend you, then it shall be done. It has nothing to do with personal feelings, though I am curious on how you will fare off now." Without any warning, he jumps forward and starts attacking with great vigor. He makes you circle several times around your weight, using irregular swinging motions to confuse your soul reading. He feigns one attack so you can dodge one way, only to read your reading and slash at your flesh. Even in regular conditions, you already considered Serpico to be a formidable foe of around equal strength, but now that he has so many advantages against you, this fight seems nearly impossible to win.

"You know, I never managed to win a duel with the nobles when Farnese ordered me to fight in her honor. Not because they were good, but because I knew that winning too much against those prideful brats would draw unnecessary attention. I didn't want to stick out, but I felt like I was always handicapping myself. This is one of the few times I get to go all out, and with a man of equal skill, no less. Given how much I want you to get along with her, I might consider this duel something more than a fight for your freedom... But for mine as well."

"Wouldn't really call this the best of times to have a duel, even if I did want to see how strong you were..." You dodge one of his strikes correctly, even if the damage is starting to add over time. Mozgus, Farnese and their disciples appear to be closing the distance.
"As you are now? Going down by my hand is the most honorful way to take your current loss. You can't fight 5 of Mozgus' men at the same time, and I don't think you can even face him and his disciples on your full arsenal."
"I can't know that if I don't start making my run, right? So move out!"

Serpico shakes his head and once more. The adantage in range, offense and defense makes this fight ridiculously unfavorable to you.

Unless...

One very extraordinarily important detail about Barnham though is that his actual ideology and mindset is itself open to change. The simple belief that might makes right means that any strong person has a point in his eyes.

Mozgus is dogmatic and zealous. Literally anything and everything that doesn't fit his exact world view is heresy by that veil.

You're comparing tar and water.

"Honor has no space in a fight to escape my torture, Serpico. Besides, you're only fighting like this because you wouldn't win on equal terms. You've already failed the code of the duelists." You confidently kick upwards to hit Serpico's wrist with the iron ball as he thrusts once more.

The pain from the blow makes him stagger, he wasn't expecting you to lift such a heavy object and use it to your advantage. Switching hands and fighting to your right, he attempts to adapt to your kick and crush style, but the fight with Gorrister has taught you how to dance around with a chain.

Serpico notices how you're trying to entangle his blade with your shackled ankle, and his sword isn't nearly strong enough to effectively do anything against the ball, being a better shield than most pieces of wood and metal you've seen so far.

The knight is not joking around, however. Still managing to retract and plan his next attacks, but the fact that you're capable of fighting back means he has less time to freestyle his swings, making him somewhat more predictable. Why don't you use that feigning strategy against him?

Kicking one food forward, you present your thigh without bending the knee, making it easy for him to line a swing to detach your ankle from the rest of your body while dodging the swing of the chain. You however, decided to catch the ball before it went to hit him, pulling your body back with it thanks the inertia while Serpico lunged at nothing.

Chucking the ball at his head, you decide not to pull any punches. If he went so far to try and remove your limbs, some blunt trauma to his skull is free game. It was a split second mistake, but instead of sidestepping, Serpico decided to block the blow with his sword. His previous weapon could probably take it. This toothpick of a sword though? No dice.

"Guide dang it..." Serpico curses without having the ability to curse in a holy group, his sword breaks as the ball wacks him straight in the forehead, knocking him out while you flew over him. This was an unexpected comeback, even for you...

Not having time to ponder over your victory, you hop on Gunpowder and barely have enough time to unstrap him from the carriage as you dodge an attack from Mozgus' disciples. A small headed muscleman just got done throwing a giant wheel where you previously were, crushing a large portion of the stone wall behind it. If this is how they treat their prisioners, you wouldn't stand a chance against them...
"Full throttle, GP!" You start running from the group, but Mozgus is seen chasing you on foot. What the hell does this priest do to stay so resilient?
>>
>>5200940
The worst part is that you can see him catch up to your horse as you desperately hope Gunpowder can gallop any faster down the rock formations. Would another leap downhill increase the gap between you? Your stallion is probably tired of doing these leaps of faith, but here goes nothing...

You force your horse to make another jump over a few rocks, but before he could land off his mark and slide into his death, you were raised up to the sky by a large group of... baby harpies?

They all had the size of a small child, and even if they looked humanoid from the waist up, the wings on their backs and their talons made it clear that they were a mixture of two existing creatures.

'Hyde friend! Hyde friend! Take Hyde friend to Hyde!' You read one of the little one's mind as they chirp their way into the sky, making a great escape as you and Gunpowder were lifted away from torture in what could only be seen as a miraculous escape.
After a few minutes of high speed traveling, the critters take you to a familiar hunter hiding in the woods, his trademark slingshot in hand.

"Hyde?" You're shocked to really see him being your savior.
"Never thought these girls would be able to help me out this much when I spent so much time killing their mommas. To be honest, I'm kinda pissed off that my wife laid eggs before raising one of my kids, guess it's a sign I haven't been fucking her enough, if anything."

"I thought you were still angry with me, why did you go through the effort of chasing me and helping me out?"
"Angry?" He thickens his accent. "Why would I be angry after witnessing the work of a miracle man? My house might be destroyed after that swordsman fella was done with the spiders, but after hearing Jodi's testimony, even I'm starting to doubt I believe the same God as Mozgus. Least I can do is offer you a place to rest that's not inside of a cell. Plus, I found something back down the mountain that you'd probably like to see."

"Normally I would say I'm glad to see you and thank you for the rescue, but this was so unexpected that I'm at a loss for words." You were barely able to process what the hell just happened back there.

"Lots of things have occured while you were away, partner. I don't even know where to start with you. Short of it is, that Guts fella made a mess out of the mountain fighting that giant spider, Wasn't there for the longest time since I had to answer a few questions to the knights while you were down on that hole, but after they let me go, all I saw was him, a giant spider resting on top of him, and my house in total shambles."

"Jodi was a mess after all that happened to her, she even threatened to jump off the damn edge, nearly tore my poor heart to shreds seeing her like that, but the swordsman did the unexpected."
"No matter how much life has wronged you. You still have a family to go back to, you can start over and protect them someday. Don't be the one to destroy your opportunities... I've lived enough to regret this mistake."

"And then he showed her this nest of eggs from the harpies that were about to hatch. All the other adult harpies were dead by the time he was done, and would you believe it? When Jodi approached the critters, they all flocked to her, thinking she was their mama. I wanted a human daughter if possible, but they're cute enough to work as substitutes for now."

Guts was the one to come to that realisation... Perhaps he also had a child of his own?
"I wanted to thank him for giving us some hope, but then he just up and left. Said something about wanting to focus on righting his wrongs like you do."
"Is Jodi ok? If she's responsible for the harpy critters obeying you, I need to thank her."
"What, and let my girl go straight into danger like you? Not happenin'. She's at the village behind the mountain we lived in. Place has nothing but corpses for some reason, but it's safe enough for her to stay there."

"If healing Jodi made you shake you faith, than you don't want to see Mozgus at work."
"Do you see me shaking, partner? I'm still a firm believer of our savior, I just disagree in offing your head's all." Amazingly, Hyde still manages to be a religious man after seeing magic, guess one thing doesn't negate the other in his mind. "Jodi, on the other hand, she's been saying a lot of stuff even I can't understand. It's why I wanted you to come with me."

"What happened?"
"Accordin' to her, she believes the spiders were sucking up some magic energy from a bright spot she keeps seeing, but every time I go there, I don't ever see a thing. Shit makes no sense, so I was hoping you could tell me if she's talking out of her ass or not. Will take a few days to get back though, the girls just learned how to fly, so we best not abuse them."
>>
>>5201003
"A hotspot for the spirits, huh? Maybe there is something there for me to find."

"I was trying to brainstorm a way to get you out of there without showing up, but that's when these girls suddenly came in for the save. I didn't even know they could lift a damn horse! They're gonna grow up to be as strong as one too!"

The hunter grew quite fond of his previous enemy race, you'd point out how much he's contradicting his own beliefs if he wasn't so happy with it. Maybe miracle is just another cute way of referring to magic.

Some magical investigation could be a nice change of pace. What could be reisiding in the dead city? A new spell, some benevolent spirits to reinvigorate you? Maybe you'll even get lucky and find a book of runes so you won't have to keep them all in your head...

With the only weapon at your side being an iron ball, it's best to keep close to Hyde and his daughters. but even if you make it there and return to Albion in due time, you'll probably be hours away before the start of the reincarnation ceremony... There is so much you don't know about the place, and several people will be left to die there, even if you manage to save a few...

Damn it, you left all of your equipment with Farnese! Merlina's cloak included! What if Mozgus tries to burn it? Will the spell still activate that way?

"You're not alone in this journey, partner. If you need anything from me, just say the word."

The travel back to the forest was a lot smoother than when you reached Albion, now that you took that ball out of your feet and got some spare clothes from Hyde, you finally feel like you have some sence of dignity back.

Opting to visit Jodi, you let Hyde hop on Gunpowder as you're accompanied by the harpy babies. The knights didn't even bother coming after you with the amount of work they have to do in Albion, that will probably be the last you'll hear of Serpico and Farnese for the remaining days.

And you can thank God for that! Sleeping with someone who isn't destroying your body everyday does wonders for your healing! By the time you reach Jodi's location, Gunpowder has given you enough energy to revitalize your body into a presentable state. Thankfully none of your molars went out while Mozgus hit you, or your front teeth, for that matter.

"Vlad! Thank you so much for coming here for me!" Jodi jumps to hug you once you get to the deserted village, with the jealous stare of Hyde being right behind her as he looked down at you.
"Uh... Good to see you too, Jodi. What's this about a bright light?" You skip the pleasantries before the hunter shoots a marble through your skull.

"Do you remember how we were all caught sleeping thanks to the spiders? I believe they were taking some energy from somewhere down here. I thought it was due to a magician, but all the bodies here look recent, and none of 'em look out the ordinary. And that's when I saw it: A blinding light on top of the hill. There's a rock formation that looks almost man made with how sculpted the rocks look. Think you could help me figure out what those mean?"

Going out with Jodi and leaving Hyde with the birds, you squint your eyes after seeing the beacon of elementals gathering around the rocks. That can only mean that this was once a place used for magical gatherings. Perhaps an ancient civilization used the location as a temple, using elves and other magical creatures to enshrine the lands and the living.
A bunch of evil spiders and the age of darkness getting in here probably reduced the original strength of the spirits here, but this is a rare sight to see regardless. A treasure asking to be dug.

Looking for any information you could find, you resorted to observing the pile of bodies around you. Tattooing spells for maximum efficiency was a common practice in some magical rings, Merlina would probably resort to those if she had anything but bone to offer. Maybe exposing some of their skin could shed some light on any magician near you.

Covering your nose and exposing the skin of the deads, you asked for Jodi to bring you some paper in case you found something interesting... Would Od sensing help you out on this one?
Observing the dead's soul dispersing as they fragment into the air in an eerie thought. Instead of just escaping right away, you see several of them just lying still as statues as they are slowly prickled apart by an invisible filter.

"AAAAAAH!" You hear one of the ghouls still screaming for their lives, wasn't he supposed to be dead?
Checking his real body, you see that he is indeed covered in tattoos and runes that you can read. A cane engraved with the same runes appeared to work as his conducting weapon. But seeing as he died with it, he probably tried to do a last spell to survive whatever happened to him.
The spell only worked halfway, his soul was unable to leave his body as it closed into a shell, and he had to squirm unmovingly as his body was forced to decompose, all he could do was watch his own demise in real time.

Heaven didn't come to him. He neither ascended or got fragmented into a spirit of the earth. He refused to die, so he got stuck there until he went insane.
Clutching the cane from him, his fingers are broken off as you tug at his corpse. Attempting to make an opening and reach his soul, you open a hole at the man's center and watch him finally escape his torment.
"Thank you..." His spirit disappears after he is finally able to rest in peace.

Helping the dead is something you're awfully accostumed to...
Taking his cane in your hand, you have finally found something to conduct ranged attacks with using your Od, much like Merlina did with her scythe. Noting down a new rune to use, you draw in a new page to identify the spell of the light arrow, using both your spirit and the ones around you to shoot a telegraphed series of wisps after the target you point your staff to. Two handing this with your halberd might be tough in combat, but perhaps there are ways to fuse their properties.
>>
>>5201116
Finally done sightseeing, you decide to enter the circle to see what spirit stays inside of the temple. Who could be the one guarding this place?

With a single swing, I shall locate the source of rain.
With two swings, you shall learn the anger of the sea.
With blessings thrice, I shall find the lodgings in this world.
And with the aid of magic, you shall too fence in the four winds.
The Harvesting Baron shall not rest. For he will work until the garden of humanity has everything it needs.

A man wearing farming clothes and with two sickles in hand appears to rise from the ground, greeting you as several souls appear to take the shape of fruits, flowers and vegetables.

A great magician has the option to live past the life expectancy of a regular human, keeping his original form if his soul chooses to watch over the living as a great spirit. In this case, The Harvesting Baron appears to be one that has helped several plants come to life, from the day he was born to the centuries beyond.

The Barytes roam the earth without me, but the spirits of the earth are easily buried and isolated. Small in size, the little grains of sand are unnoticeable to the naked eye, but were they not united, no life should have holdings to rest their feet in.

You only manage to see some of them when they form up close to your feet, and even then a large group of them only appear to be the size of a single ant.

The silver eyed have a very close relationship with the earth spirits. Their school of power comes from within, instead of the elementals, but a great spirit watches over all of those who stay close to humanity's true roots, regardless of their alternative interpretations, or their spiritual distances to the Four Kings Of The World. As such, I shall grant a blessing to the devoted sprouts.

"O Great Spirit..." You kneel in front of him and ponder on what to wish with the last of the Harvesting Baron's apparitions.

Several options come to your mind. You could become stronger, be blessed by luck, maybe he could even get that magic ball Sivir has right to you, you could transform Mozgus into a damn ivory tree! But not wanting to abuse of your blessings, you humble yourself to a single wish. Not to increase your powers, but to make others closer to your level.

"Nurture the harpies from the hunters. They wished to help me as well, and I know I can't do this by myself. I need all the support they can give me."

Surely you jest. I could make your body strong enough to kill a man with a single punch. Your Od could be larger than the largest of crop fields. I could teach you an ability that could make you undefeatable, yet you refuse it all to help a friend of yours?

"I too, have a great connection to plants. If I can get in touch with my true nature, my mother... Then perhaps I can achieve that power by myself. But the others do not have that advantage over me, so they should have proficiency in abilities I would never have in the first place."

You truly are a selfless individual. As expected from the son of a plantmorph, your altruism has been ingrained in your soul. Very well, it shall be done.

Suddenly, the chirping of the harpies is replaced by cries as they crouch over themselves. A growth spurt is seen as they all grow to become adult-sized. Their glorious wings spread apart as their feathers signalize the start of their flights, much faster, much higher, and being able to carry a lot more weight by themselves.

"WHOA! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABIES?!" Hyde is shocked to see them grow to be around the size of an adult male, though they still seemed as lovingly to their foster parents as previously. Perhaps they only grew in size, not in maturity.

Never forget your roots, Son of the sprout. From the soil you came, and into the soil you will return. Perhaps in this drought of morals, the harvest will be enough for all to hear the sunshine's song. The Baron disappears in plain sight, leaving you with a faster way to return, along with a small army of flying bird-women.

"You made them grow up? Whoa, I didn't know that was even possible?"
"Their mom needs a better place to stay than in the middle of some dead village. This way they can fly you to a safer location, such as Ilos." You even find a way for Jodi to stay out of harm's way, even if you were borrowing most of them to you.

Holy fucking shit, we can keikaku the shit out of people.

Your body also feels hardened, capable of taking and dishing out more damage. Your Od strikes are now capable of harming regular foes, your purifying poison now dissolves the apostle's souls even faster, and sometimes you can notice your weapon extending out of your hand, similarly to how Merlina dished out moon shaped projectiles. Should you copy her technique like before, or develop that into a new ability altogether?

Wow... Talk about a glow up... All those years failing to cast spells with Merlina chastising you now feel like a false memory... It's not nearly enough to fight a crowd of thousands of apostles, but most likely enough to hold your own against Mozgus or his disciples. Provided Guts, Hyde and the harpies are there, he could turn into an apostle himself and you wouldn't be scared of him!

"You sure taking the girls to live on this Ilos place will be a good idea, partner?" Hyde asks before sending Jodi to gladiator land.

"Trust me, if it's safe for my mom, it's safe for this mother. They aren't strangers to animorphs, and they're a fan of strong people taming even stronger foes, she'll fit right in with those weirdos."
"Come back safely, honey! I want a baby that doesn't have any feathers, still!" the couple kisses as the harpies chirp something about their parents being racist towards them.

Taking the last few hours of preparation to grow some greenery around the deceased temple, you strike a high-five with Hyde to signal that you're done hiding the harvester's home.

"So you wanna get your stuff back from Mozgus and save a couple lot from tarnation, that right? The way I see it, we got 2 different ways to go there. We can take the faster route over there and get back a lot faster than previously, but I'd reckon there are Kushan approaching Albion from all angles. Now I'd love to spend my time killing those long bearded fucks, but unless you want to take an extra day or two fighting them, I'd say we let the girls fly us into the safer route, even if it takes a little longer, we won't be exhausted by hiding and fighting. Oh, fuck yeah

This can be a fucking bomb. If I remember well, the slingshot of Hyde apparently draw some of his Od and send it to his projectiles. Either it means that it can become some kind of time bomb, or that the seeds are slightly powered and can explode enemies that wouldn't fall with a normal seed of ours
>>
>>5201331
Only demons of course. Also keep a few for safety in case they get too near.
I am happy we have Hyde, being alone restricts things. In regard to this Kushans we could fight on horse and attack them at range, it depends what kind of enemies we need to kill. Or go in a forest and divide them for easier fights.
They might be professional and veterans, but fighting in a forest against two fast enemies is not a great battle.
>>
>>5201338
>>5201341
If we wanted to prepare them beforehand, we could probably pack a seed into a very compact dirt ball, scribe a rune on it for extra OOMPH, and have hyde slingshot it. Would be easier for him to slingshot, have a bit of growth medium and protection for the seed itself, and runes do weird magic shit so it couldn't hurt.
The dream combo.

>and sometimes you can notice your weapon extending out of your hand, similarly to how Merlina dished out moon shaped projectiles. Should you copy her technique like before, or develop that into a new ability altogether?

Talking about this, what do we do? I say there's a lot of potential in this. If we try to throw an attack to a enemy that it looks that we fall short in the attack, we can maybe extend the wooden part of the spear to actually hit our target.

Other thing i have in mind is maybe control wood to some distance. Something like actually hitting a large enemy, and if the tip of the spear breaks, we can control that wooden part inside of our enemy to start moving to the heart
>>
>>5201345
That could be a good idea. If we had something better than dirt for a container, the rune could be more solid maybe ? Or complex, with more lines and precision.
But then again dirt is connected to this seed, since this was gifted by a spirit of nature. So dirt might be already a good choice

>>5201348
The one of Merlina is pretty nice, it allows a chance to hit even if you don t strike an enemy directly with the solid real weapon. It's also cool.

I think it could be used in several ways, Extending a weapon like the wooden part, or even steel part. Like the blade of our sword or the head of our halberd. Maybe make it larger for create a bigger wound ? Extend it in another direction for catch an enemy ?
We could attempt to create even something like Merlina. If not moon shaped magic projectiles, spear like ones, blade like, arrow like or a small sun.

Or perhaps white flames on our armor/weapons. Or instead of those an aura for poison the air around us (for demons/apostles). In one they are on fire, with the other they need to fight a poison that is anathema for them.

There's a quest that doesn't run anymore that I miss, which had the main character develop an attack called "Heartbreaker" to deal with demons that couldn't be defeated by normal means.
Basically they shoved their sword into the enemy (Said sword being made entirely of 'soul', basically the counterpart to magic in their setting) and manipulated the blade to have it sprout into thousands of branches that would cause severe damage throughout the entire body all at once.
I think that's badass, and we should adopt the technique someday.
Beyond the Gate, how I miss thee...

Nice

Also anons, after how we used that ball-chain thing in our leg, I say we can maybe get something like that, maybe a normal metal ball or even the head of a morning Star like Gorrister used

Also, from reading the Stormlight Archive, maybe a way to have some space in our pockets and vest, we could make some holdster for a throwing knives ir daggers strap to our spear, so when needed it's right there near our hands

Your voyage went smoothly for the most part, the Kushan look distinct and loud enough to know when most of them are coming. Especially since they travel in large groups and all. A guy in a horse and another flying through the sky on his bird-daughter shouldn't really cause a scene. Especially if you have to ignore most of the villages being pillaged... And the women being raped... And the children being raped along with the women... God, you know you can't get sidetracked by your mission, and getting a power-up means you'll eventually get the chance to smash all their skulls in, but it hurts to ignore them every time they march to an parallel direction from yours just because you can't stop everything you have to risk getting captured by another army.

"Partner, these Sinbad looking, motherfuckers are also getting on my nerves. If it was me or my family in there, I'd be jumping right onto their throats, and I'm right there with you. Doesn't need to be a big change or else we'll derail the entire thing, but I say we make a little dent in their front lines. Again, doesn't need to be much, let's just wait a few hours for a troop to get here. And then we SMASH them from all they're doing to our already dying people!"

Not a bad idea, but when you, Hyde, Gunpowder and the harpy hid on top of a cliff while they walked around, you two noticed that the army was a lot bigger than what you've previously imagined.
Hundreds, if not thousands of Kushan were marching towards the capital. If either Barnham or the king are still there, they would likely cause a bloodbath to whoever came their way. Also, judging by the fork in the road, they're separating more and more to cover more ground in other directions...

Doesnt that one lead to Ilos? Damn it, they need to be stopped!
The attack needs to be fast, decisive, and most of all, precise. The front troops that are passing are actually an array of the remote controlled familiars, the Pishacha. This time, it's a mixture of rhinos, tigers and elephants in the front row.
Defeating the caster would probably make them all go wild and start attacking their own troops, but given how many there are, There are more likely to be tens of casters than a single one.
The way you fight these men will probably be the deciding factor if you were going to be here for a few minutes, hours, days or even weeks.
If there is one chance of you and Hyde having a kill count in the thousands, it's right here.

>Forcing a rockslide below them.
>Search for the casters and snipe them with Hyde.
>Rain seeds from above and entangle them in the woods.
>Give the seeds to Hyde and let him plant in strategic spots.

>Ignore them and escape.

Perhaps we could make the metal of a weapon transform in thorns and branches, when it gets inside an enemy ? Momenterally. Should make a lot of damage from one wound, add that we coat out weapons with our pure Od that eats through demons, and it could be quite fatal.
Or we get a special weapon that can expand in such a way inside a foe.

I remember a bionicle quest where we had a long sword called Wound Maker. Basically every successfull strike would leave a wound, that would keep expanding unless cut away from the body. Quite grim. If i remember correctly our first enemy immediatly cut one of his limbs after realizing what the sword did to him.

I like the idea of cutting their way with the rockslide, having the seeds planted, and see if we can sense the Od of the casters. Then we wipe them with our powers and Hyde help once we point them out to him.

With the road closed and a bunch of noise by the armies, surely that can be enough for the beasts to attack the army

"Take these." You hand Hyde a few of your seeds.
"What are those? You want to grow some beans up their asses?" He straps the weapon to his wrists as he finds some patches of dirt to throw them at the enemy.
"Trust me, place them next to the rockslides and around their centers, they will not reach past the frontier..."

Hyde thinks you're out of your mind by making you throw these little things instead of the pebbles he usually has, but that's ammo he's saving and they're relatively harmless, so even if some of them see them falling, they won't suspect a thing.

"Which of these rocks looks easier to tumble down into a rockslide?"
"...This one." Hyde manages to calculate the exact angle of which rock could knock which until it turned into a boulder fiesta. The man is ridiculously precise with his aim, so you decide to trust his skills just as much as he did with your unorthodox ammunition.
Everything is planned. Time to wait for them to pass through the hills and the canyons.

"Closer... Closer..." You whisper as you watch them circle around your traps, the animals are only a few lines before passing through the cliff you're watching them from. Now is the time to seal them off.
"GROW!"
The roots and stems start to overflow at amazing velocity. The branches go through them as several Pishacha and Kushan scramble to figure out what to do.

And just when some of them think they can cross the cliff, you hit your staff in the rock formation, crushing the ones who were quick enough to reach your line of fire, and the ones who did it got sandwiched between the trees and the rocks.

The idiot casters, trying to control the tigers, attempt to ascend and cross their legs on top of the trees, revealing their identity as they had to cover for the ones already killed by trampling.
"NOW!" Hyde flies over and shoots them with his regular pebbles, with you following suit and sending several slow moving wisps out of your body, which rapidly picked up speed as they spread apart and opened their targets by the throat.

With all the casters dead in a matter of seconds, all the enemies werewolved against their armies, being devoured by their owners, you can only make out their screams and the confusion as to how this started. None of them even managed to catch your face in the midst of this.

"Whoa... Remind me not to say the world 'grow' when you're close!" Hyde gasps.
"Mission accomplished, time to give Mozgus a taste of his Sacramental Bread." Not looking back towards the Kushan being slaughtered, you coldly mount on Gunpowder and order Hyde to follow suit.

You're done playing games, you will stop the reincarnation ceremony, or at least, save some of the crowd from being sacrificed.

Femto is where Conrad is, and no priest will stop you from slaying that demon king.

The mood has only gotten heavier as you approached Albion once more, the flock of lost souls has only gotten more full of hatred, making you coat your body in Od at all times so the evil spirits cant manage to possess you. Any mistake here could get you in severe mental and spiritual trouble.

Despite that, your Od reading has gotten much clearer. You can feel the presence of Mozgus and Farnese somewhere inside the tower, likely preparing to burn the heretics. Has she really not learned a thing since seeing you run from Mozgus?

Serpico and Azan appear to be outside, overseeing the feedings of voluntary workers.
Weirdly enough, you feel the presence of someone watching over you again, but despite your sensing of intent growing more precise with each use, you have no idea where this entity is, and forcing your mind to focus on you only makes you see his eyes observing your movements when you close yours.
Horrifying.

There is a branded individual somewhere around the prostitution ring, but that would require you to get way in there to find out who that person is. It's getting close to the sunset, they will likely attract monster to their placements if they're not careful...
You can feel it, the ceremony will happen today. And there are no signs of either The Skull Knight, or The Black Swordsman... Where could they be!?

Merlina's scent was already very faint in her clothings, so you wouldn't even know where to start with the search for your halberd and heavy armor, but if you were to guess, it's either with Serpico, The Iron Knights lodgings, or with Farnese and Mozgus at the Tower Of Conviction.

No matter where you look, you appear to be cornered by evil entities, evil people, and horrible visions...
"Done scouting? If you want, we can split up to cover more ground. Where do you need to be?" Hyde asks, imagining that you have a plan before entering that hellhole.

...That's a problem... While you have thought about a priority list and what to look out for, you have no idea what to do when you're done, or how to prevent the ceremony aside from placing wards and hitting enemies really hard. Maybe the armoured skeleton had some ideas?

Whatever goals you have right now, you only have time to accomplish one, two at most, if you count Hyde splitting up with his harpy.

"Can you get my stuff at the tower? I'm already afraid that people will recognise me without a disguise. It's going to be easier to enter and leave the tower as someone who's Mozgus has never seen the face of."

"Got it, but... How do you plan on hiding your face from the Knights? They've been after you, right?" Hyde reminds you.
"Yeah, I better use something to hide my identity... Give me your hat!"
"What? No!"
"This is serious, Hyde. Stop fooling around!"
"I'm not giving you my hunting hat, it's what makes me look cool when flying through the-" You snatch the damn thing from him, exposing the bald spots behind his head.
"You don't see me caring about vanity here, do you?"
"With a face like that, aging poorly will the last of your problems..." Hyde begrudgingly whistles for the harpy to take him to the skies.

Taking several chalks and rocks from several tents, you go warding each and every single one of them, connecting them by a string of wirings so none of them are cut off when you eventually spread your od net throughout the refugee camp, always making sure to hide from knights and lower the hat down to your chin. So long as they stay here in this line, none shall be sacrificed.

Which makes it extra frustrating when you see some people getting captured by the knights, being accused of cultists. The lodgings are gargantuan in size, and even with your wrists and digits starting to sting from too much drawing, you continue focusing on your mission. Calling the attention of the knights or the crowd didn't go so well the last few times, so let's do what you do best, draw.

After a few hours of hiding, drawing and thread making, you finally run out of chalk, ink, and whatever else you could use to draw. Counting how many lines and houses you went through in your hand, you'd be lucky to save over a thousand of these people if they stay huddled in the ring. Better than nothing, they might as well count their blassings.

Observing the last tent you warded, you bump your head with a familiar girl that was about to exit that place. It was Nina, the harlot that offered her services a few days back.
"Oh, it's you..." Nina recognised your face, but still attempted to get up, taking the hand of a dark skinned girl who was covering her face and cooing with her.
"Ooooh..."
"Sorry, but Elaine and I are not in working ours. We need to run away- Eek!" Nina attempts to run again, but starts to cough as blood appears between her legs.

"You alright there, girl? You don't look to be in any conditions to be running- You offer a hand for her to stand, but waver after feeling the Od of her companion. Despite her innocent and childlike attitue, her spirit is just as dark as Guts'. And worse, there appears to be a familiar circling around her...
"Grau?" The girl appears to be unable to speak your language, too.

"Don't touch Elaine! She has syphilis! And she's not for sale!" Nina uncharacteristically appears to defend her dumber friend.

"You still haven't explained why you're running, I'm not one of the knights, if that's what you're worried about. I was a prisoner of theirs, so you can trust me wholeheartedly." You reassure the shaking prostitute, which blurts out the reason she's leaving.

"I... killed someone. The Knights are after me, because I'm one of the occultists..." She says after a few sobs.
"So there really was a cult here..."

"All of my friends have disappeared, Luca, Lucie, Fouquet... They're all dead, and it's my fault!" Nina sobs uncontrollably as her voice gets louder. "I killed poor Joachim after he thought of rattling me to the knights! I have nowhere to go, so I will run-" You cover her mouth so she stops calling attention to herself. You can somewhat understand her thought process, but if she wants to stay safe, why is she taking a cursed woman with her?
"You're a lot safer staying here, friend. Why don't you take a seat and-"

"NO I AM NOT! THIS IS MY ONLY CHANCE OF ESCAPING!" She shakes her friend around as she throws her tantrum, only making you more dizzy as you attempt to see straight without her Od reducing yours.
A branded woman, and spirits circling around you both, this is dangerous...

>Do whatever you want, but leave the girl with me. She's safer with the strong.
>May I inspect your friend? Something about her seems familiar.
>You are a wench, so I'll pay you to be escorted by me. Now you can't leave.
>Stay in your tent, or I'll give you a real reason to bleed.
>I am also being persecuted by the knights as an occultist, let's hide together.
>Tie her down and tape her shut. Easier and safer.

Where we rendezvous with Hyde ? After each of us, has done is task that is.
I am considering to draw some temporary runes inside our armor and on Hyde clothing, when he returns.
Beyond that, there is that entity. And the tower. If the tower is used as a sort of spiritual focal point, perhaps if we put some runes in it might interfere with the ritual ? If we kill the entity, we might have less spirits hanging around. And Mozgus and the entity, are the ones killing people and spreading misery.
>>
>>5202064
I bet the entity is the Egg of the Perfect World. As to how to deal with it, the Enchiridion Sigillum has a rune array called "Transcendence" which in it's default form transmutes humans into sound and light (killing them). We can swap the rune for human out for the brand of sacrifice to symbolize anything Apostle related (but even then it would probably work becase th Egg is also a sacrifice).

>>5202134
Becchi has been VERY accommodating to our stupid bullshit. I have no doubt that he'd let us (try to) stop THIS chance for Femto to Incarnate, but there's no way to PERMANENTLY stop Femto from Incarnating.
>>
>>5202070
Is possible, but we should try something that could be easier. I think this could work

What if we place runes that poison it instead, the ritual can't be stopped probably but the outcome can be changed (for example we are already denying to the ritual, a part of the camp population thanks to our runes protection). For example if one or two passages don't go well it might affect the entirety of Femto. If it creates even just one weak point or a single defect in his being, it would be a great boon for future battles against him.

Leaves the tower. We could have the tower collapse, by calling the aid of some roots or using the seeds. But we do it now, with the excuse of a fire inside maybe ? We could stop Mozgus activity for a while, all those torture tools and machines would be crushed.

"I am also being persecuted by the knights as an occultist, Nina." You lift her chin up and offer a rag for her to dry her tears. "If you want to be safe, you can just hide together with me."

Nina wasn't conforted in the slightest from your talk, still gritting her teeth and holding her head, only this time she stopped talking and let go of Elaine's hand. Whatever, it's something.

"Do you mind if I take a look at this woman's face? Some of her features look familiar..." You say it about her face, but you're more curious about where the hell her brand is, it's probably somewhere in her face...

"Aaaah..." The girl barely protests as you start unwrapping the bandages on her head, to reveal a face you were not expecting to see.
"...Casca?" You quizically look at the woman's face. She has lost the short hair and the ridiculous amount of muscle mass, but her lips, her eyes, the round face, the dark hair matching her skin, and coupled with the brand of sacrifice dripping blood on her chest, this could only be her.

"Good to see you, Casca! Why are you walking around this place unarmed? Guts not here with you?"
"Uhh..." It seems her mannerisms were not merely acting, as even when you try to read her mind to see what she really has to say, nothing comes on. It's like hearing the sounds at a beach. There is noise, but no words. Whatever she went through at the eclipse was so traumatising that she locked her mind up even further than Zhafira's, reverting to the state of a small baby in the body of an adult, incapable of coherent speech and thought.

You stare at Casca for a few moments in silence, watching her innocently pinch your nose and cheeks. You never really interacted with her that much, but it's painful to see someone regress into such a state. You can't imagine how much that affected Guts if this was the woman he wanted to settle down with...

"Nina, where did you find this girl- Nina?" While you were busy sadly starting at Casca, she managed to sneak out of the tents. That idiot!
"Aaaah..." Casca attempts to follow suit, and when you try to stop her, a shockwave greatly diminishes your strength as the two of you fall. You forgot you hard your Od coating on, that probably hurts the branded as much as it does the apostles with your increased powers...

Only one moment of wavering was enough for the spirits to almost go inside you, you're on their watch just as much as Casca herself now.

Can't fret over every one of these refugees, even if it's someone you're somewhat familiar with. There's a thousandfold of people here, and now with Casca on your watch, Guts is bound to show up.

Thankfully, Casca's brain activity is surprisingly tame, not making an effort to go after Nina in the slightest as she was distracted by a few crows passing by her. At least she's relatively easy to keep in place.

And sure enough, you're greeted by a familiar voice coming behind you, followed by Luca and some of her group after some time has passed.
"Where is she!?" A panicked Guts storms close to you and Casca, who was sitting down next to you like a kid observing your drawings.
"Elaine! I told you to keep your face bandaged! You don't want to show features like those in a whorehouse!" Luca explains after attempting to get some rags on Casca's face. Oh, thank god. For a second there you thought Guts had syphilis...

"Is this the girl you're looking for?"
"Y-Yes... She's here... She's finally here..." Guts seems shocked, almost forcing a smile on his face after seeing Casca here. So much so to the point where he did not even notice you.
"Hey, I went through a lot of trouble to be a sitting duck here for the reincarnation ceremony. The least you could do is compliment my hat."

"That explains it. Didn't think you would be the one to find her before me, but good to know I can count with you when push comes to shove." Guts connects two and two together, knowing about your wards and how you're always one step ahead of him thanks to actually asking questions instead of bruteforcing your way in.

"No time to explain, I'm making a few wards and hoping none are told to evacuate the area. You?"
"Was searching for Casca until I saw these girls getting arrested by The Knights. Might have killed a few of them, but thanks to that they led me to someone who sounded a lot like Casca..." He speaks between several gasps, did he really go through the mountainside to Albion on foot? How much did he run?

"I'd offer a hand, but one touch here without Od coating and I'm toast. Just stick with me and we'll get through this."
"Heh, I can't believe that bucket of bones really thought we wouldn't make it out of here alive..." Guts refers to The Skull Knight, likely meeting him before you. "Causality this, struck in the tides of fate that... If he calls me The Struggler so much, he should have a little more faith about us. Griffith shows his face here? I'll stop him. And all of his asshole monster friends too."
Guts clutches the hands of Casca, with her blankly staring at him.

"I've ran away from responsibilities for too long. This time, I will surely stay with her."
"Don't want to interrupt your little moment, but where is Nina?" Luca asks you.
"She ran off. Said something about all of you being dead and being a member of the cult."
>>
>>5202377
"That imbecile... We go out for a few hours and the coward already thinks we're dying... She must have gotten captured by the knights, or worse, the occultists might be angry at her raising suspicion to them."
"Aw, crap. I forgot about Isidro..." Guts slaps his face as he says a new name for you to keep track of.

"Who?"
"Some kid who's been following me after I saved him from Kushans. He wanted to play hero so he spread out with Puck to find Casca."
"And you just let him walk off on his own?"
"Kid wouldn't listen to me even if I explained it to him, not that I tried doing that..." You're about to give another scolding to Guts for child endangerment, but you're interrupted by Hyde falling on the floor with his harpy-daughter, her wings bleeding and greatly damaged.

"Hey, Partner... I found your stuff..." Hyde throws out your halberd and your shortsword to you, his face still buried under the rocks.
"AAAH!" The prostitutes all cower in fear after seeing the bird woman. Her exposed breasts are almost as big as their own heads...
"Do harpies usually grow this fast?" Even Guts is a bit put off, since last time he saw one, they could all fit inside his hands...
"Hyde! You ok? What happened?" You try to shake him up, but he appears to be just as hurt as the harpy he has.

"Couldn't get all that you had, got caught... I was about to leave, but then I heard something about Mozgus being hurt, so I searched for the priest to see where he was at. Guy's been walking with a cane and with that leader of the chains. She confessed to something inside a confessionary, and then she was sent away to the torture chamber."
"What did she say?"
"Couldn't hear it, dipshits started to hit arrows on my girl soon after, but since she was the one with your items, I thought I'd let you know." He says before fainting.

You can't possibly know the meaning of her confession, but if it's related to you, the chief inquisitor will probably look for the remainder of your items. If he thinks that the reincarnation ceremony is related to the wards and the runes on Merlina's cloak, he'll likely try to destroy it...

What are the implications of that? The spell indicated that she would open the gates of hell to take one enemy from this world, but if it opens up while a discharge of evil spirits is near... This could entail in an open vortex directly to the Abyss! Something that could suck this entire place inside of it along with you if the God Hand manages to get their hands on that power.

You can't heal Hyde, Guts probably doesn't want to leave Casca's side, and there are too many things happening here at once. You can't save every one of them and do all of your tasks!

>Ask Guts to look for Nina. Puck can take care of Hyde.

It's best if Vlad goes by himself, Guts will just cause the blood monster like in the Manga to form and he has Casca to watch over now.

Not to mention Vlad will be ironically safer the farther he is from Guts and Casca. And with his new magic abilities he could likely handle Mozgus and his torturers, especially with those ranged wisps and trees.

"The runes will stay right where they are unless someone deliberately tears them down, or if the power of the spirits is too great, but I've made enough of these to last against every apostle I've met and then some. They might grow weaker if something happens to me, but in that case, you can just run from Albion with Casca or whatever." You take your weapons and decide to help Farnese out.

"Bold of you to think I would run. Staying still isn't something I enjoy doing either, so I'll have to pass on whatever you're drawing here." Guts draws his giant sword, ignoring the possibility of them all dying here.
"So you're going after Nina?" Luca asks expecting a good answer.
"No, but I know a few troublemakers who are probably still after her. I'll bring Casca along with me."

"She's safer in the tents, though."
"Every time I let her in someone else's care, it only served for me to run farther away from Casca. I don't care if two marked people draw more enemies than when they're alone, she stays with me." Guts pulls Casca's arm with her as the other girls huddle inside the tents.
"Aaa..." Casca doesn't register why she's being dragged around by Guts, wanting him to let go, something that appears to bring him great sadness.

And off you go, mounting on your horse before feeling a great disturbance in your being once more. The same feeling you got when together with Guts and Casca. Another branded human?

No... This time, you can feel that he's somewhat hostile. Going around and tearing over runes you've made on some tents. Closing your eyes once more, the one responsible for undoing your work finally speaks to you.

"You are undoing their work... Undoing the one event meant to occur in front of such a worthless being such as myself. The ritual shall go on, or else there will be no purpose to all this madness. This is for the love of life. The Perfect World shall be made.

While he definitely has the Od of a sacrificed, he's also too similar to an actual apostle for you to have considered that first. Could someone be both at the same time?

If he really goes through with leaving the enemies ready to harvest more people, none here shall be left alive. How could one consider the end of the world as you know it something positive? Even with your newfound blessings, you're still feeling just as vulnerable as ever in this place. Given how horny the spirits of the orgy cult are, ending up like Casca if you get possessed is definitely a possibility, or worse, doing something akin to Femto to a girl like Farnese.

Farnese... what could she possibly have said to Mozgus to warrant torture to such a devoted martyr of the See?
Getting your weapons, saving Farnese, Hyde and the others, fighting Mozgus, die trying, or lose your mind to the spirits. Which one shall it be?

End Of The Timeline: Chapter End

>>5202506
A good chapter, we accomplished much this time around.
>>
>>5202506
I knew they were going to mess with the wards.
>>
>>5202506
Wait the egg of the new world trying to destroy Vlad's wards is a good thing. Because it means he won't be at the tower to turn Mozgus and his disciples into pseudo-apostles. And because he's in the refugee camps, skull knight will have a much easier time targeting him and could even kill the egg.

We could actually end up stopping this pseudo-eclipse, and cuck Griffith out of a physical body. Though that would vastly change the storyline of Berserk.
>>
>>5202558
Drastically changing the story is probably on the table considering we are playing a fanfic quest with a magic vegetable knight.
>>
>>5202563
We have already changed some events in the story though, specifically with how Griffith was sent to the tower of rebirth and how the Band of the Hawk fell to ruin. But we didn't change any of the main characters are or personalities, which has been for the best I think.

But yes Vlad drastically changing the story of berserk would fit in with the story. It'd fit in with that Karmic Causality theme of previous actions setting the future in stone. And Vlad had taken many actions to stop and frustrate the god hands plans. And Vlad's influence grows the more his power does, and he's definitely higher than he's ever been thanks to embracing his Astral and plantomorph heritage.
>>
>>5202506
>Egg of the Perfect World is fucking up our wards
That little shit. At least this time Skull Knight can probably kill the fucker.
>>
>>5202506
good chapter.

Well that s a big problem. We will save less people now, the more he runes he breaks.
>>
.... then again we have gunpowder and this demon just decided to reveal himself to us, and we know what he is doing. Hunting him down could be done. But then it becomes a problem of how fast we are. We have still to grab our stuff, Farnese and then out of the tower.
>>
>>5202506
egg boy is either irrationally obsessed or those wards really could fuck up the incarnation ceremony, We should leave the primary goal of grabbing the cape and secondary goal of saving Farnese to Guts. Vlad needs to either kill egg boy or stall him for skull knight/ensure enough people survive to disrupt the ceremony.
Also get puck to heal that harpy, could be too easily be killed at the moment and Vlad blew part of a wish on them.

I think Vlad was very accurate in saying that Mozgus burning Merlina's cloak right now could open up a serious can of bard worms.
I say we leave Skull Knight to the Egg, of which the wards will have a negative effect (however slight) on the egg's capabilities until they're all taken care of and him being on flat open ground kind of fucks his escape anyways.
If we don't want to get an early Great Roar of the Astral World, we need to secure the cape.
>>
>>5202912
Sending Guts in there will 100% end in the bloodbath. I love the guy but this mission requires subtlety imo. Also he has no magical expertise whatsoever which can be required if something were to happen with Merlina's cloak.
Additionally a presence of a branded person is likely to cause what happened when Casca was brought into the torture chamber. Which is the opposite of what we want I would assume.
On top of that we want to get our armor there do we not? Do you expect Guts to grab it in one hand while swinging his sword with another? He will also have to somehow persuade Farnese to follow him since she has no reason to trust him. For her he's the Black Swordsman after all. It will be much easier for Vlad to do.
Besides would he even agree to go there solo? He just declared that he's not letting Casca out of his immediate surroundings. In the original he had to get into the tower to save Her but here he has no such reason.
Also Puck is not present and currently cannot heal anyone.

Changing my vote here, whatever we do, we need to get that cape first or else it's daemon world time
>>
>>5203033
A bit late to respond but, Guts is here because he wants to stop Griffith, just explaining that the cape could be used to tear a portal into the abyss and that would likely be exploited by Griffith would be enough, Farnese could help him with that if she is willing to play ball to escape torturous death. If she acts like a dumb ass sure Guts will leave her but she could possibly bail herself out at that point.
As for Vlad, only he can fix up the wards and if casuality kicks in and makes the reincarnation ceremony happen then if Vlad doesn't want to drop fucking dead or worse he needs to be either...
A. way outside of Albion all but abandoning the fight and he is the type of person who would refuse doing so.
B. stay the fuck inside the warded safe zone reinforcing and repairing damaged wards where egg boy happens to be currently.
We could sent Guts to try and kill or stall egg boy but Vlad can only track him with his odd sense it seems like. If the blob monster occurs and kicks off the incarnation ceremony Vlad is outright going to die unless someone physically drags hims out of Albion and even then he could be fully possessed or corrupted.
Despite his power up Vlad is still in danger of possession by regular ass evil spirits so I don't see him accomplishing anything outside the safe area if things go to hell.

Work really took my energy this week anons, unfortunately I'll push the next session for next week.

Hope I've managed to emulate the chaotic energy of the reincarnation ceremony by the end of the last session. We're talking code alpha omega sigma red here, even if everything goes right and Vlad survives that doesn't guarantee much else since you're fighting 5 gods and all. Going further from the three sacrificed targets of the God Hand, Gunpowder gallops away from the refugee camp in order to get your armor back at you, as well as rescuing Farnese, and doing whatever you think is a good punishment for Mozgus for all the atrocities he's done in his life as a chief inquisitor.

Before leaving, you've observed Guts going after Nina on request of the prostitutes, making sure to keep Casca along with him. Hopefully his encounter with the cult won't take longer than your trip.
The other sacrificed, however, seems to be actively making an effort to undo your protection seals. He seemed not to be directly interested in killing the refugees or even calling attention to himself, so going along with the plan without being noticed is crucial to him, the faster he takes care of your waste, the sooner he's able to help in the reincarnation ceremony.

'For the love of life'... Whatever could he mean by that?
Knowing how these monsters tend to be stronger and more present at night, there is still plenty of time to get your stuff, take Farnese out and bail, but that would require either a fantastic amount of stealth, proficiency, or straight up luck and fate.

When reaching the tower up close, you can still feel the heavy aura of the damned screaming inside that settlement. You can barely hear your inner thoughts thanks to the screams of the tortured, this was the breeding ground of the first God Hand member, so the area is fittingly torturous to be around. This is not unlike the times you were haunted by visions of red when seeing regular people or settlements, only difference is now that you can somewhat stand it, and now you know why it happens.

Hopping off your horse and walking around the place, you are almost caught by Azan talking to one of the troops, inquiring on their actions.
"We'll be burning heretics until the end of next season if we keep doing it at this pace, where is our leader?"
"Lady Farnese was in the confessionary with Mozgus not too long ago, they should be planning their next plans for the following days."
"Anything they ordered us to do in the meantime?"
"Evacuating the beggars at the sight of any suspicious activity. They won't be safe out there in the wild, so taking them in the facility is top priority."
"Those dirty peasants should not be here in the holy ground! If you ask me, helping them in general is already a blasphemous act."
"It's a good thing I'm in command of your troop, now go spread the world around the perimeter." Azan pushes the footsoldier away so he can do his job.

Not only are your wards being destroyed by a creature who by all means, should not be able to touch it, but provided there's a safespot there, it will likely be ignored as soon as Azan gives the order for people to enter the tower, the exact breeding ground everyone here should be avoiding.
Is it worth to warn Azan? He's certainly the most skeptical of The See's actions, but just like Serpico, he's following orders, and the orders probably say 'Arrest or kill Vlad on sight'.

The situation makes you feel more worthless with each passing second, but that doesn't stop Azan from idly guarding the entrance of the tower. Given how he is alone, the knights have great faith in his strength to stop any threats in the near viscinity.
He's one of the few you haven't fought while you were under Farnese, but any punch could be detrimental now that causality is giving you an ugly look.
Really, you can't really recall when causality was ever in your favor, if that really is a real factor in play.

>Talk to Azan, tell him not to evacuate in case of emergency.
>Talk to Azan, tell him to let you inside the tower.
>Sneak past him at the cost of leaving Gunpowder outside.
>Attempt to knock him out with a surprise attack and go inside unnoticed.
>Circle around and look for a place with fewer guards, you can enter by climbing a wall or through a window that way.

Wasting time whilst the Egg and Mozgus are both maneuvering to fuck everyone over is out of the question. Just climb on in.

And you're all right! Climbing is one of Vlad's fortes, however you're still going to roll for stealth, don't want to get noticed by any guards that slow you down before you get to Mozgus
A 1d100+10 should do it, Vlad isn't dumb to get a critical failure over here while he's still unnoticed.

QM, how much control do we have over our plants other than making them grow? Can we choose the type? The direction? Adjust the rate and maximum growth? Give the seeds "delayed" orders? Can we affect other types of plants, and the ones that already "hatched" from the seeds? We may be able to make them grow into a protective array.

Not bad, I'd call it a good pass.

So far it's limited to trees, the direction is usually upwards but with some experimenting you can control how fast it grows. You'll get a chance to try some stuff out still in this session.
>>
>>5214812
Would it be possible to have our trees grow with wards in their bark?
>>
>>5214821
Only if you carve it after it's grown

Climbing? No problem. You have enough practice with these things to hold your weight on the smallest indentations. The only hard part will be doing this unnoticed without leaving Gunpowder out there in the wild. Trotting makes a lot of noise, could you somehow sneak your horse inside a tower wi
